Clio 172 Sat Nav

Just bought a mk2 172 clio which has the fatory sat nav installed. The car came with a disc but it is a 2003 disc, i was wondering if anyone can tell me what the best updated disc to buy is?? from renault or some other 3rd party company?
Also does anyone know what make the sat nav is??

its carminat branded but its a VDO dayton MS5000 unit. I have it in my 182.
Get a teleatlas disc with TMC, as the standard renault discs dont come with tmc enabled.

Renault have started doing map discs with TMC. (TMC stands for traffic message channel, if yours is a standard renault disc from 2003 your tmc logo on the screen will be red, meaning not working. Get a new map with TMC codes and it will go green and display traffic problemso on screen and warn you of them by voice)

second cd down, note slightly more expensive than non TMC disc, but worth it. English page to above is available via www.vdodayton.co.uk.
I'd get that disc if you were updating, I have the 2004/5 disc, changed from my 2004 renault disc. Have a look in your nav manual for more info on tmc mate.

thanks for the info you have provided, been very useful. Would you know where to get system software updates for the unit from?? can the screen also be used for other things? what is the expert mode for?

the pass for expert mode is 4112 if i recall correctly let me know if thats right.

here you can get car diagnostic info such as battery volts, errors etc also GPS info like altitude and stuff. Dont mess around with stuff tho too much.

Why do you need software update, what software version have you got?

not sure what software version i am running, will check and let you know. On your sat nav system are you able to input a postcode for a destination as i have just bought one of those vdo disks and can't seem to get the post code bit to work??

the new disc has arrived already?

You cant do postcode search with them unfortunately, some other discs allow it though.

yeah got the disk already Just worked out how to do the post code input and it works a treat, have also spoken to vdo and they are sending me a software update cd which updates the operating system. It is supposed to make the system quicker and add a few extra features like height above sea level and speed you are traveling at etc.

from main screen go to expert mode, pass is 4112, should show u in there.
