clio 172 vs saxo vts



  clio 172
now then boys.
think this is quite a subject for us clio boys but is it true what the chav's say.
the vts can keep up with and better a 172.
Is this true as i haven't had a chance to be going in the same direction as one while in a rush so to speak in my phase 1 172 yet?????

Few chavs own real VTS's Most chav'd up Saxo's are VTR's or Furio's

The group 14 insurance gets them.

I've seen more chav'd up 172's than VTS's in my time.

i own a vts i bought it after my 172 im not a chav

yes the vts isnt far off a 172! so get down of your high horse!

Who's on there high horse?? I only really ever hear people say good things about the VTS on here. It's image is a different kettle of fish entirely.

The 172 is a quicker car, but by very little.

i am not being funny but round my way its alway's some little chav driving one try to race every thing. My self i do like the saxo i think its a very good for little money

vts can keep with the 172 although you have to work the vts harder,if you get caught off guard 172 will leave it behind

out of the box, the 172 will be quicker, but slap the right mods on the vts and the 172 will have some work to do.

a VTS pretty much kept up with Tom's 182 all the way thru Belgium at 100mph +

Very true clart,i think only reason mine keeps up is cos i have a manifold,decat,exhaust and ik.172 is the better car although they do cost more

My mate has a VTS, and it kept up with my 182 cup the only time we've raced. I pulled away slightly over 80, but very little in it.

there is no chance a standard vts would be as quick as a 172. My last car was a nitrous'd vtr and had more bhp than a standard vts and even on nitrous felt no where near as quick as my cup

the vid from top gear showed that there really is nothing in them going for it on a track. the clio pulled on the straights though qutie well. in the real world you would not probably notce a grea tdeal due to normal traffic and the confinments of driving on public roads.

lets wait for this to be a 20 page wonder!!!!!!
 
My only experience was a lad went caning past me in a vts on a dual carriageway so thought id have a play. he flew round the roundabout about 200 metres in front of me and up a bank about 1/2 a mile long, i went flying past him about 2/3 of the way up the bank - looked a bit surprised ! all within legal limits

Had 2 vts's, over 5 years and they are very good cars. Only weak point is a new gearbox every year and they ratlle more than my 182. Would def say my 2nd vts ( dastek, full exhaust, bmc, decat) would push my clio all the way.
They are so light and feel more nimble.

no way. i have never had a vts close to me many times, (mind u the last owner of ma 172 was a rally driver n he has defo done somthing to it, its sick!)

the VTS is not the fastest car on the planet, but not to be underestimated! up to 90 they are quick, after that they are poop tho!

When i had my 106 gti, completely standard, i had a few blasts with a cup, and when i caught him off guard he couldnt shake me at all up to 100! Cornering was about on par, but the cup was pulling away coming out of the corners when it got a bit twisty!

the torque of the 2.0 is always gonna help over a 1.6, but the saxo/gti's are lighter, and pretty nippy little buggers off the mark and up to 90ish!

id rather have a 172 over a VTS though! When i was looking for a gti, i went to see a VTS and a GTI and the GTI was much better all round imo! looks nicer too!

all on track of course! :)

There no point in arguing which is quicker. The difference between these types of cars as standard (i.e. vts's, type R's, mini's etc.) is so little there is virtually nothing in it. When your arguing over tenths of seconds on 0-60 times it roughly equates to about a cars length over quater mile sprints. This could easily be offset by car condition, how hard you change gear, driver ability and a whole host of other factors.

As for the chaver factor, any hot hatch that starts to become cheap will drift towards them. 172's / 182's will eventually as well. This does not make them bad cars or mean that all drivers of them are chavers!

people will always argue even for 1 tenth of a second! lol! but most of us like our cars and motor racing, and one tenth of a second can be the difference between 1st and 2nd place hehe

i think you miss understood what i was getting at. i had a few beers last night that was probably why it came accross wrong about the chav's.
i didn't meen all the drivers of these quiet rightly put "quick little motors" were chav's. this isn't possible with the insurance bill. it is the first thing alot of ,and im not saying all, VTR drivers will say to you when you mention a clio 172. it usually starts with when i get my.....VTS.
secondly i feel the 106 GTI is the one to buy as you get the great performance although not as good as the clio ;)... without been associated with the vtr's with the 16v badges on them!!

also regarding the comment about one or two tenth" of a second is not much on a drag strip. check these stats out boys. and girls sorry to any female members.

What always gets me about the VTS v 172 argument is that people say the VTS is as quick to 100. Yet when people mention Valver vs 172 the 172 is 'miles' quicker...?

Umm i dunno bout 172vvts but people say theres not much between a willy and VTS which imo isnt true.............Iv battled both VTS's and 106 gti's and come out on top all the time and tbh niether have ever really hassled that badly!

Never had standings with either though!

what people dont grasp is in an actual race eg good start and changing just before before limiter there isnt a lot in it,actually being on the road then the torque of the williams/172 makes it easier to drive.Having owned a williams it has a lot more power and isnt as badly affected by having passengers where as the vts is.In an actual race they would be very close (williams is let down by its box and limiter)

A VTS (120bhp) is 130bhp/per ton. Although some make 130bhp standard so their 140bhp/ton. From memory isn't a Valver just under 130bhp/ton as well?

I remember JONGSR4's VTS was as just as fast if not faster than his mates ph1 16v.

Both the Valver and VTS are virually as quick as a 172 in the real world.

Anyway here goes, was a fantastic day, and we had 14 competitors running up to 6 times each through the sprint, with some informal drag-racing to round the day off. The weather was kind to us, and the competition was fierce.

So fierce that I counted several sets of rear seats and plenty of spare wheels littering the side of the strip as everybody searched for those elusive seconds. One competitor even whipped his spare wheel out while he was waiting for the countdown on the startline (mentioning no names LOL, it worked though eh?).

We tried running a handicap system this time round and it seemed to work quite well, with fairly close results.

It was also good to see how everyone improved throughout the day, and apart from the odd mishap, like almost sliding through the braking control box, there was little in the way of problems for anyone as far as I'm aware.

No 5 Clarkie... you know it makes sense...


fastest clio times in blue. fasted 106gti/vts times in red... need i say more?

oh and ask freebone.... vts/gti IS faster than a valver also proven that day
