Clio 182 - Removing AC & HPAS

Opinion Required - Monday 22nd Jan '18

I'm in my final stages of getting my car back up and running and I would like people opinion.

Where do I mount the adjuster? I initially wanted to mount the adjuster on the panel where the ABS ect sits however as I have a "proper" cup I have the headlight adjuster thus no room, Which got me thinking do we think it'll look ok next to this panel, I've highlighted in the pics below in red.

I'm a big fan of OEM looks so want it to look as normal as possible:

Thanks in advance.

Cant for the life remember where mine is located, lol. Sure its replaced one of the wheels for dimming or headlights (green dot below). @bloke can you remember?

Most people have mounted them on the wheel to the left as on a CUP packed car they don't have the manual headlight adjuster, which IMO looks really smart.

  dan's cast offs.
Pic is a bit crap, just need to trim a bit away on the back of the panel. Fits ok and I take the switched live from the switched next to it as well.

This is typical, I am just about to list my 172 Cup non a/c complete kit up for sale lol.

Have you fitted your set up yet?

Here's a pic if you need direction.

Bloody pic didn't upload sorry...View attachment 1354173

Cheers @bloke I have a slightly different panel to the one you've posted as I have a "Cup" without xenons so have headlight adjuster. I was reading the large EPAS thread today and read that @NorthloopCup mounted his under the handbrake handle which IMO is a great idea.

At present I'll I'm thinking either handbrake surround or on the side of the steering column.

Cheers @gez 172 not yet fitted my 172 Cup setup. Although its all painted and ready to fit.

I'm going to run my belt slightly different to your pic, basically without the power steering pulley.

Like so:

Selling the 172 Cup Set up should be easy I struggled to find a set up.

  dan's cast offs.
If you mount it on handbrake surround then you've got to run the wiring through to the controller and that's by the way mounted on the door pillar, if you mount it on the steering cowel if you need to take it off you've got the adjuster and wiring hanging there.

I liked the handbrake surround as I'll be able to reach it while strapped in my bucket seats but did realise it was a long route!

Still not convinced where to mount...

On or near the panel I use is best, everything is just behind there anyway. Don't think I've had anyone say about needing to adjust it while driving?

Mine is where Carl recommends and I have no issues adjusting once strapped in. You'll find once you get a setting you like you'll keep it there anyway. Mines a quarter turn from soft, anything firmer and it feels like an arm workout. Tried it on no assistance at Oulton and nearly binned it at Shell as I just couldn't move the wheel fast enough, lol.

All going well, I should be finishing this over the weekend.

I'm not in possession of all the require parts, although a few should turn up in today/tomorrow's post. I'm driving to the Isle of Mann in early March and then entering Sprint events this year so need to get it working ASAP.

What belt did you use with your setup and did you go ahead with routing it like the pic you posted? Any problems with it?

Iv currently got a pms as delete (original one) and going to change to a cup setup aswell as removing pas. Want to minimise the amount of pulleys so dont want to run the one PMS offer as an idler for the belt. Want to make sure I get the right belt though

I went for a 5pk847 which I think a few people have run on here.

Its works perfectly, plus it OEM which I love. I got my belt from ECP was only cheap. There are a few pics on my "project" thread, which is here.

Here are some pics as you got my looking!

This is where I mounted my adjuster, you can't see it unless you get on you hands and knees:

Finally a pic of the belt:

you can get rid of the big bottom bracket and just use a turnbuckle to tension the belt.

Perfect, thanks for that. Looks much neater with the turnbuckle, is that what you have fitted? Where did you get it from?
Install looks great with all fresh bolts etc!
Iv a cambelt due before next years racing so going to sort out the pas delete before it goes for cambelt and then get it rebuilt afterwards

Just been through the big epas thread and seen the turnbuckle there on the last page. Dont suppose you can remember the size of the turnbuckle required?

Bloke on eBay sells the reverse threaded turnbuckles for £25. I got one and it's decent, I just didn't like having it at an angle so I added a bit of tube for a spacer to straighten it out

Can sort of see it in this pic

Can see what you mean there, just added a spacer to keep it parallel and inline

Will get one ordered up anyway and fit it at the same time. Cheers for the info

Although I’m sure it’s safe, it always looks like it’s under massive load!

Although it does look neat.

For reference, the distance between alternator and block holes when belt is at a decent tension is 190mm. This equates to a 120mm turnbuckle from mcgill motorsport on ebay to give a decent range.
I tried their shortest at 70mm before starting the job and nowhere near, went for a 100mm which works but not enough thread left my liking for strength so going for the 120mm to be safe

I´m sorry for digging up old stuff, I just don´t want to start new similar thread. I´we been gathering informations about PAS and AC delete, and finally I got here. I would like to go for the three pulleys setup, (as on the bloke´s pictures above) then buying quite expensive delete kits. I´m not building a track car, my clio is just expensive weekend toy. I want and need it to be road legal, but at the same time as raw and badass as possible, I just like the feeling. I do not use the aircon at all, also I can live without PAS, so why not to save some weight then. Now I´m slowly getting together the parts needed. So far I have new cup alternator, upper alternator brace, turnbuckle kit to replace the lower one and probably will buy 6PK810 belt (correct me please if I´m wrong with the belt). Now I´m getting to the point.. I understand how to get rid of AC, I know how to remove PAS pump. But even though I´we been reading a lot, I still don´t know what to do next about the PAS. Which other parts of PAS system can I remove, what else is needed to do, when I do not want to change the steering rack. If someone can give me some advice, please do, thanks in advance.

Are you looking to just delete pas rather than replace with epas?
If so then you can remove all the power steering lines along with the pump. And fit the following kit to your existing rack
The blanking plug sizes are mentioned in this forum somewhere and you can make up a link pipe yourself with some hose if you dont want to spend the money but it saves the faffing
Cant remember the belt code but I got the info from this thread and the euro car parts code is in the image below

Yes, for now I just want to delete it, EPAS maybe in the future if at all. Sounds easy, so I will go for the PM kit and try to find the right belt. Thanks for reply, helped me a lot.

That belt works fine for me using the turn buckle tensioner above with cup alternator and top bracket. Everything else is standard. Just remember run the belt 1 rib away from the engine as it can rub on the cambelt cover apparently
