ST mate- MPG is more gash than the 197-

I was getting 12 MPG on the Focus- but I did live on BOOST for most of the time--

& I was running mod B on the mapping-( it wasnt the dream science handheld it was the other one)

haha ok cheers for the heads up!

Just looking at cars at roughly around the £8k mark; the 197 is top of my list atm but just wanted to see how the ST compared in terms of running day to day!

8k...

is no mans land for a 197-- buys you a bulk standard car - with maybe a cup pack- or a high miler 8/58 plate

try & save a few more quid- up to say 8750-9250 & set your sights on an R27

I wouldn't buy a 197.... they're a bit 'meh' IMO. But the R27 is a thing of beauty.

Are Renault still sorting out the issue for the early 197 gearboxes that were knackered?

No cos its not the early ones, look at the RS forum, some 200's seem riddled with faulty boxes. Total luck of the draw, ratio changes was the only change i'm afraid

Anyway, imo any 197 Cup packed, be it R27, Cup or 197 is fine. Its the silver wheeled 'normal' 197's that could be seen as 'soft'. Still a world away from any Mk2 imo.

The R27 is no holy grail, you can spec a 197 the same bar the gash LY paint and stickers ;)

My 197 has a sweet gearbox and is a 56 plate with the original ratios. ALL 197's ARE GOOD. Don't be swayed by the cup pack until you have driven both. Yes the Cup is more dynamic but if you manage to find the difference on the road, then you is way beyond the speed/safe limit. Being the old fart that I am, I'm pleased I went for non-cup. Why, coz I still like my fillings in my teeth.

Flame suit on :rasp:

I have recently just started commuting to work (250 basic with some business) and im averaging 33/34 mpg using Ultima on the motorway and fast A roads.

My latest tank has covered 270 miles already and if whats left is anything to go by it will be heading for 400 miles.

My work collegue has an ST as does one of my mates and they reckon you'll never get into the 30's even doing motorways and A roads as i had looked into them when i realised i would need a car for commuting but one thing i will say though is i wouldnt buy a 197 if you are going to be doing alot of stop start driving or know you'll be sitting in lots of traffic as these cars do not like standing still when on.
