Clio 2.0 VVT 138bhp

Looking to buy a new car something abit more stylish and newer to my Polo 9n 1.9tdi. It's quite quick but nothing stupid but costs of repairing a diesel and temptation of a petrol car has swung me to look at the clio 2.0 VVT 138bhp around 56/07 plates. Seem very good value for money projectors, cornering lights. Keyless entry, etc...

Anyone had any experience with them and are they easy to tune or get a nice sound from? I understand people will say get a clio sport but I can't justify the insurance (£2000+) when the 138 is like £1000. Any easy mods that can be made to the clio?

Cheers Alex

  Whichever has fuel
In my honest opinion, don't bother. All of the drawbacks of owning a 2.0 N/A petrol with none of the benefits.

^^ Like wise with Livingstones Warman (www.lwib.co.uk), another specialist insurance broker (performance car or not) - they beat Sky for me by £200. Their quotes are literally half of what I get on GoCompare/Confused etc., same for everyone else I've recommended them to. Well worth a call for a quote, only takes 5 mins and you won't be waiting in a queue on the phone either - fantastic personal customer service.

if you have a dci 100 keep that till you can afford a 197. you'll only be disappointed

I have a polo 1.9 lol remapped to about 130 fed up of the car. I can afford the 197 ( I have savings ) but I just think the fuel and the insurance would be too much to go for. I don't plan on paying a lot insurance wise the 140's only 1300 ish.

IMO i would go all or nothing and the 138 bhp 2.0 ltr just seems pointless to me. There are next to no benifits to it, high tax, poor mpg, high insurance and its not even fast. I would rather pay more insurance/ fuel and have a car i enjoy. If i didnt want to pay more for insurance and fuel i would just get a cheap car that will see me through until i can afford the insurance and fuel on a more powerful car.

Out of interest what is your mpg, tax and insurance like on the polo?

Mpg around 55mpg 75/80 mile to a tenner. Tax £130 I think for year. Insurance £900. So is the 138 a letdown engine? :/

Personally I don't see why you would bother getting a 2.0 N/A petrol with only 138bhp, considering a 1.2 TCE can be mapped to about 130bhp quite easily.

If it was 1.4 TCE I would straight away I don't see point in pissing about only to receive the same bhp.

I would stick with what you have at the moment as that is spot on for your age. Cant really comment on the engine too much but i just cant see why Renault even bothered with it. Sorry its not much help but i would just wait till you are a little older!

Cheers. I may save up for a corsa 1.6T or the clio sport. Just never thought I'd need that extra 50bhp but then again I bet it comes in handy haha.

Yeah the car is a really gd car for my age etc. bulletproof engine but it's 10 year old now I just want something newer and more stylish. Speed doesn't bother me that much to be honest.

how old are you? i'm 22 and paying 600 a year to insure a new 200, with admiral. . . . i nearly fell off my chair when he told me how cheep it was...
i get between 25-35 mpg depends how i drive... my 2007 1.4 gets 31mpg so I'm impressed with the economy of the 200 ... considering ..

3 years i deffo wouldnt then. you would be really bored remap on a car like that £300-400 quid for like 5 bhp if that. wow.
save your money for now see what stuff is like when your 20

I just did another insurance quote on a 197 came down to £1500 so only £600 to put to £200 more than the 138... maybe a 197 is on the cards! whats MPG like? lol...

Unsure, I average 31.5mpg in my 182 and that's with mixed driving, I'll often go the long way home from journeys as I work in the countryside, so you could probably average more.

I think the 197's are a little less, but it all depends how you drive it, what about a 182? Or is that not new enough?

You'd be better with a Twingo RS! Or fiesta ST, Polo GTI..

Twingo looks disgusting! not sure on the Fezzy, but the Polo GTI yeah nice, but i got a Polo atm not quite sure going to test drive a 197 tomorrow, its 8K but just want to see what they're like no intention of buying! :)

the 2.0 138 will do 40mpg on a good motorway run at 70mph where the 2.0 200 will do 28mpg - however a remapped 1.2 tce with 130hp will do 50mpg

A 182 will do that, maybe a little more.

The fact that very few 138's were sold tells you why it isn't the best of engine options tbh. Much rather have a mapped DCI 106.
