Clio bogs down at 3500rpm

  172DD Cup
hi, i finally have a running problem, to go with my steering problem :)

most of the time it gets to around 3500rpm and it won't go any further. it doesn't bounce off a limiter, it just bogs down and stops accelerating. sometimes i can get passed it by coming off the throttle a bit and then going again and it suddenly takes off, sometimes it won't go anywhere and i just put it into 5th and sit at 60mph.

please help :(

thanks, kris

the only thing i've done since it last worked fine is changed the manual steering rack back out for the pas one and fitted a new aux belt. when i bled the pas i didn't have the filter in the reservoir bottle and the air in the system quickly emptied the reservoir all over that corner of the engine bay. when i filled it back up and tried to start the engine it struggled a bit and took three attempts to get running. almost like a sensor got covered in fluid but i don't know what sensor is in that area.

the emissions light has been on since i got it and it gave high idle emissions at recent mot so i'm going to pick up a lambda sensor this afternoon.
but strange that it happened in between changing racks. it was alright when i changed from pas to manual!!

i changed the lambda sensor and at the moment its behaving itself, but still giving eml. the emissions were very high at mot, so for now i'm guessing the cat has gone, or second sensor is fubar'd too. i'm going to order me a bluetooth code reader off ebay and see what info i get.

codes all cleared and light hasn't come back. average mpg gone up by about 2-3. lovely.

this little obd jobby i got is great. £20 off the bay. it works with my phone and can log everything from a journey. gps position, speed, acceleration, rpm, throttle position, map pressure, coolant temperature, how much timing advance, mpg, etc all at any given second. and it reads and clears codes too. and if you get the paid for android app it also gives you stuff like 0-60, qtr mile, how much bhp you're producing (although thats prob the app and the not the obd.)

Yup.. that looks like a fanatstic toy! :approve: I think I'll be getting one too. Just to double-check: ELM327 is what we should be looking for right?

I thought this thread deserved a bump...
Thanks to kpmatthews:) i ordered my reader and it arrived the other day. Fantastic piece of kit. Works really well and easy. Highly recommend anyone with an android phone to get one although it will work with laptops too. I also paid for the full app and it looks like it will be well worth it. Will have a good play with it once I've sorted out a couple of issues with my car...

So all in all I'd say it was £20 well spent

glad you like it. the full app lets you do 0-60 etc etc. i'd be interested to hear how accurate it is, let me know

Will do once I've sorted the misfire on cylinder 4 that it came up with, hence why I got one lol.
The menu looks better too on the paid one. Tbh you might as well get it for the sake of £3!
