Clio Diesel 65bhp & 80 BHP DCI

  Vento TDI
Hi,

I am after a Clio Dci and have seen a couple of mint 65bhp Dcis. The 80bhp dcis seem harder to come by.

Is th 65 bhp version that slow in comparison to the 80 bhp one?

Also what is there to look out for on these cars?

Thanks peeps

Yeh I think theres meant to be a noticeable difference. Mate of mine has a DCi100. I dont mind driving in, gearbox isnt great and your forever changing gears!!

How come you fancy the diesel?? Whilst the economies great, I personally would always go for the petrol variant of the same model as you get more spec for you pounds.

I had the dci80 as a courtesy car and absolutely loved it. Far superior to the lower end petrol models. Did 70mpg average with 80mpg if I tried and was quicker pulling out of junctions than my 182.

Thing is with diesel being more expensive than petrol and the additional cost of the diesel car I just don't think I could justify it.

There little difference the 80 doesn't sufer from lag when the turbo gas get very hot its very hot but you have to drive it loads back to back to notice. A bit more power yep but its not huge the 100 is good but more expensive again.
They seem to thrive on milage don't worry about high milage ones mines on 53k and its very quick more resonsive than any new 80 clio but still not as quick although its not huge.
Look out for abuse crahses etc best thing ever or them seems to be chnaging the oil ever 9k or preferably less if your feeling keen.
Spec of the dci's and petrols is exactly the same there £1k or so more new which is a few hundred second hand and sicne I've saved about £3k and my cars worth more than a petrol its hard to argue again the dci. Also I don't like Clio gearboxes so if I cna get away with chnaging gear less due to the dci's torue low down I much prefere it plus no need to rev it to make it go although the 1.2 is a slight bit quicker but its barly noticable in my car.

You can chip the diesels can't you?

Yes:D I have just done my partners DCI65 and it now has a massive 95HP and the MPG has gone up! She is well impressed to say the least! If anyone is interested i can do any of the renault DCI range with gains from 30-40 BHP. £250 all in

£3.9 cash is cheap for a car but I was offered £3.5k for my car a year and a half more modern with 45k.
Anything over 90hp without other work IMO is dangerous. EGT temps will go high along with intake temps going very high which isn't good for long life.
I'd be interested to know what maps you use although i don't imagien your to happy to tell me I take it you don't do custom stuff and an intercooler with a remap is 100hp quite safely 110hp with a few more bits.

I know a dealership who chipped a dci 100 to 120 bhp, apparently it was a rocket ship and would wheel spin in 3rd.
Personally i wouldnt buy a petrol car unless it was a renaultsport. My last demo was a megane Dci 120 which we P Boxed to give it 155 bhp and 30% more torque, it would eat 182's at between 55 and 120 in gear. stupidly quick, although BHP aint huge torque was massive.

Diesel all the way.

Hi mate, Basically the unit i use is called SPI which plugs into the OBD plug and enables you to re-write the mapping on the ECU. So far my MRS is very happy with her car("i can do 80 up that hill now!")! I am based up in Leeds so if you are interested PM me.

Cheers
