Clio Diesel

  Clio 1.5dci
My girlfriend is soon to pass her test, I currently drive a 04 182 which will not be suitable for her.

I'm thinking of buying an ~06 Clio 1.5dCi, thinking that it will be a very cost effective solution.

Is this a good way to go?

I will certainly miss my 182...

So you'd be the owner and main driver, she'd be a named driver? Go for an 80/100, 65 is too much of a drop coming from a 182.

That's right, I will sell my 182 and be the main drive on the diesel. I'll definitely be on the look out for the new model, I just hope my budget will stretch to afford it.

buy a mk2 ph2 dci 65 for her....
f**k selling your 182 and sharing a car if its her first, garentee it will be bumped/scraped in the first few months which would piss me right off...

She can't afford a car on her own, and we're in the process of buying a house together. It would be a nice money break for me to be paying less on the car, since I've just bought a road bike for commuting I'm not driving as much as I used to anyway.

I understand the bit about scraping a newer car, but I might just like to take that risk as a compromise to have a nicer car - for my sake.

my mrs managed fine at 17 in my 190bhp 172! was only £200 a year or something to add her on too!

however, if your buying a house then the dci is a good step. personally id look to find a Dynamique S DCi 106 as that way you get the 6 speed box, plenty torque and 106bhp, however i beleive they are £90 a year to road tax, if you go for a DCi 86 you get the 5 speed box, still resonable amount of torque but £30 a year road tax. coming from a 182 though id go for the 106.

whats your budget?

I've not been able to get any better than 600 in mines. Don't know if it being the DCi 86 makes the difference?

currently sitting on just under 60k, so its had a good run in period.

Most of that is about town, a decent motorway run would most probably have it up near the 700 mark

I declared the stainless steel exhaust, and they see that as a mod and won't insure anyone under 25.

My budget is roughly what I get for my 182, the more the better! I may add a few hundred if I find the right car.

Before I got my 172, I had a 1.6 8v Si and when the GF passed, I put her on insurance. In no time at all, my lovingly cared for car had become sh*t tip, and I couldn't stand to be in it, never mind drive it. And I deffo wasn't about to clean all her rubbish out of it every week, so I got another car (172).

Soon, she wrote it off. Now she has a 50 horse power Lupo.

I could never share a car with her, in fact as I told her the other day, if it came down to us only having 1 car, I wouldn't bother driving anymore. Your experience may vary / have GF that isn't so messy, but just thought it might be something else for you to consider.

The dCi is a real good car :)

i'm do about 50000km/s by year, and it's just 5L/per 100kms.

Very economic and nice, the engine is "funny" not like an HDi or other.

shes a girl, she wont drive your 182 fast. Also its not like a 182 is a crazy aggressive Ferrari or something, she will be able to drive it fine. If you get rid of the 182 you will regret it.

ive never pushed mine futher then 500miles the weight kills mpg though someone on rs claims upto 70mpg an 56mpg commuting on a couple of dci86s
