Clio Mk1 juddery/ hesitant

  Clio 1.2 mk1
Hi all,

I have been on the forum for about 2 hours now and still can't find anything relevant to my problem, I don't want to go and try everything as I have a budget, so I want to do something that I'm 75% sure it will fix the problem.

I just brought the car, it's a 1.2 RL Clio 1997 P reg, I don't think it's a fuel injected.

The problem:
When it starts and idles it's juddery, and hesitant to pull away, they only way to taxkle this is to rev it higher than normal, all through the gears it feels like I should be in a lower gear, when I hit 40-60 mph it's juddery as hell! Feels like the doors will fall of, but then sorts it's self out at 65mph and it feels fine.

The first thing that came to my head was that it is idleing to low? Is there a way to adjust this ?

I have already tried disconnecting the battery fully and reconnecting hoping the ecu would reset, this did not sort out the problem. I don't want to take it to a garage as its my little project car.

Thanks!
