Clio mk1 rev counter

[clio-16-valver]

I own a clio mk1 16v with a v dodgy rev counter. It only works when it wants to (very rare) and only seems to work when you first start the car for about 30 secs after.

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it?

What are the causes?

How much does it cost to fix on average?

What parts do I need?

Check the connections on the ignition pack. They get their rpm signal from there.

Which are where? Im new to this all. What do I have to take off etc.

follow the HT lead from your dizzy cap, it sits on the nearside inner wing near the bulkhead and looks like a transformer.

Normally just a faulty rev counter, fixed by replacing it with a different one.

Mine shakes when I am driving along at under 50mph. is this common? I am told by a few people that I know that theirs does it too.

The shaking thing is common, though mine only does it under 30 mph
