clio not starting (suspected key problem)

my 51 plate clio 1.2 wont start, the red light wont go off the dash and the fuel pump doesnt seem th prime. when you try and start it the engine just turns over for a few seconds and then it stops. i think it may be the key not turning the imobiliser off, what do yous think???

Have a search there are plenty of threads with similar symptoms. A solid red light is not the key, it's recognised the key and it's something else not registering properly (I can't remember). Check your earth straps, including the one to the gearbox.

Good luck, had a prpoblem with a movano yesterday, pain in the ass... Light wouldnt stop flashing even with key in.. we disconnected battery for a minute reconnected turned alarm on and off, repeated and eventually seemed to work.. Whether we did something else unknowingly??? RAC messed behind ignition barrel but wasnt convinced that that was what sorted it.. Good Luck

I had a similar issue after I did my alternator.

Leaving the key in with the ignition on for a minute before starting solved it in the end.

It's usually unfortunately caused by a break in the immobiliser wiring and unless you're confident stripping and testing wiring yourself it might be an auto-electrican job
