Clio Overheating..

  clio 1.2
Hi all, I have read though previous posts on this topic, but cant figure out where to start.
The other day my car didnt start first time, on second attempt it started. Now its overheating badly.
I was thinking on changing the thermostat, but are there other avenues to explore first?.
Its a 1.2 clio on a 99
Thanks very much

Just been out to take thermostat off and realised the fan isnt kicking in, only thing is i cant seem to find out which fuse is for the fan undert he bonnet, the one inside the car is fine.

Funny guy.

If i was in your position i would take it to a garage/auto electrician. Cooling fans are a bugger.

Failing that, get an electrical tester and test each point before and after fuses/fan etc... The break/fault should be narrowed down to a certain section.

Take of your battery terminal and replace, make sure all wires are plugged in. . normal stuff, make sure there is nothing obstructing the fan, i.e it spins freely. Your handbook says which fuse is which, unless I'm overlooking something???

I've got a similar problem on my 94 Clio RT. If you disconnect the small block connector to the fan itself and put 2 wires to the battery the fan should spin, if not the problem is with the fan. Next try the fan cut-in switch (the other connector from the same bit of loom) and short those 2 wires with the ignition turned on. If the fan spins, the problem is with the cut-in switch, if not then it is likely to be the fuse.

just to point out some of the MK2 ph1 dont have the sender in the radiator, it uses the temp sensor in the cylinder head which goes to the injection computer which then tells the fan to cut it. check the little black relays in the relay box next to the battery theres 3 of them depending on engine. I had the relay problem in my mk2 ph1

another thing....dont run ur car like that, you risk warping the head...blowing a gasket and popping off some coolant pipes....could cost you alot of money. If anything have the fan turned on ALL the time until you get it sorted.
