Clio RS 200 cup Rev limit

  Clio RS 200 cup
Hello again, had my cup 200 couple of weeks now and haven't had much time to drive it, so went for a good run out this evening got it warmed up and opened it up, the change up lamp illuminated, the beep came on but the car limiter stepped in @7000 rpm? Redline obviously 7500 rpm, Ive heard that a new coolant thermostat can cure this problem?. Appreciate any good advice, cheers

7K is right for the 200 iirc.

The standard rev limit is not at 7500….
It must be 7500 as why would the Rev counter show it to be

Yes, standard rev limit is 7500rpm, if it's coming in at 7000rpm and you have been driving for 30 mins or so then your correct, thermostat likely requires replacement.

I'd fit a genuine one as the last couple of gates ones I've had have failed prematurely by actually breaking up

Thermostat issues will bring the shift light on much lower than 7k

The dyno plots I’ve got across 3 different Clio’s all go to 7250 before the map, and 7400 after….

Mine was hitting the limiter at bang on 7k with a thermostat failure.

7250 was the 172/182 rev limiter, the 197 and 200 are 7500, they don't hit peak power to 7250rpm according to the specs from Renault.

Remember most RR operators won't go to the limiter if they have started to see power tail off

I recall 7500rpm limiter last time i drove a 197, assume it was standard.

172 was 7250 as stock.

The shift light rpm is set in the engine ecu 7-7200rpm iirc. I had mine adjusted at Efi so it comes on at 6900rpm with the meg engine. First one he had ever done.

To throw another curveball in the mix, my rpm needle was off and undereading. Was saying 600rpm idle when its set at 900. I stripped the clocks down, popped needle off and adjusted it to mirror obd rpm from engine ecu.

That's exactly how the Rev limits should be,my 182 cup was 7200 give or take 50

So had chance to get the car fully warmed up, drove it 15 miles along some b roads , traffic cleared so gave it a boot full and straight to 7500 no bother, compared to my 182 I had this 200 cup is razor sharp in the way it drives upper Rev range....class
