Clio sport 172 original front shocks

Hi guys,
I have a question for you.
I bought original front shocks.
When i got it, i pulled rod out and compress it to about half way and rod stay stationary. When I compress it all the way down and released it, then it goes up for about 5cm and stopped.
Is this normal for this shocks?
From my previous experience on other cars, they should always go up when compressed, no matter how much I compressed it.

Sounds normal, I'm pretty sure that 172 shocks aren't gas filled so wouldn't come all the way back up like your expecting.

As far as I'm aware the only fronts which are gas filled are the 182 cup shocks.

Yes, I'm aware of that.
But on my other car shocks are oil filled also but it goes always out. No matter how much I pressed it it always goes up.
Some bilstein shocks that I bought but they can not be fitted because the distance of the holes are 52mm are much harder and they always goes out. This is why I'm confused. Because every single oil shock that I have ever seen goes out. In fact that is some kind of check is it necessary to replace shocks.
And than I bought this one and it's seems like it's broken... 😕

I fitted new 172 dampers recently and they didn't come back out after pushing them in. I think it's normal.

Because I thought that mine are broken from the same reason.

Its normal. They are not gas filled so there is no pressure to push the piston out.
You will notice that when you buy them they do not have a retaining wire to hold the shaft in position.

They still soften with age so its not necessarily a bad thing to refresh the suspension.
