clio sport headlight problem

  clio sport 182
hi all, i have a 55 plate 182 sport, my problem is the headlights come on with the ignition (without the headlight switch being touched) is this normal or have i a problem somewhere, i have only had it a few months, whether it's a coincidence or not but i have just replaced the battery and it seemed to do it straight after this.any ideas or is it normal and nothing to worry about. thanks Graham

172 and 182's all have automatic headlights, but mine only come on when it gets dark (obviously) or if there's very bad rain. They don't come on just when the ignition is on

hi thanks for the quick answer, mine definitely on all the time, i can live with it it's not a problem i just wondered if it was correct. so i'm assuming there must be a light sensor/relay somewhere that has failed

The light sensor is up behind the rear view mirror, you can see it from outside the car if you look closely.

Have you tried turning you auto lights off? you can do this by changing from 'off' to sidelights 3 times with the ignition turned on.

Only need to do it twice.

So, ignition on. Turn lights all the way on then off and all the way on and off again. You'll hear a beep when it's done.

Disconnecting the battery will have reset them back to auto, do the above and you'll be sorted.

Thanks for the amendment, knew it was something along those lines :rasp:
