Clio Sport V6: prod. nos/homologation

Hello all - new poster here (as will become quite evident.) Im wondering if theres any possibility of importing a Clio V6 to the U.S. and Ive talked with the Dept. of Transportation about it. Seems that about the only way to do it is to see if the V6 is the product of a homologation and 500 or less were produced. From the little I already know, Id say theres pretty much no chance of that, but Id certainly welcome informed responses as to the "history" of the Clio V6, and is there another version of it (for the street) that I might be unfamiliar with? Maybe a RenaultSport Clio V6 (Gran Turismo 3 and 4 is where I was introduced to the car.)

Thanks all very much

Tom Reynolds

Oklahoma, USA

P.S. Just edited post to spell "homologation" correctly in subject line.

In terms of UK right-hand drive numbers, then reckon both Mk1 and Mk2 V6s fall below the 500 number. Jeremy Townshend (from Renault UK and a ClioSport member) will be able to give exact numbers, but reckon Mk1s were in the 300s, and outlook for Mk2s is similar.

However, would be strange you importing a RHD car into the US. When it comes to LHD V6, with the whole of the EU to sell into, Id expect numbers to be more than 500 :(

Thanks everyone. Yeah, for the U.S. Id like it to be LHD. "Show or Display" from the D.O.T.

is a shot in the dark. I think realistically the only hope that I have is if Renault starts

selling it in the States. And supposedly thats not supposed to happen until 2010, if then. I think it would be a lot better if it could be branded as a Nissan and sold through U.S. dealerships, but it would probably take sales away from the 350Z. Is there a good timeline/history of the RenaultSport Clio race car that maybe could give me information on possible homologation, that is to say, the reason the Clio V6 was built for road use in the first place?

Thanks very much-you are all very lucky to be able to choose from such great cars like TVR and all the others that never make it over here for some reason.

You should have a look into Renaults rich history of making hot hatches my friend. There are many illustrious cars in the bloodline like the 5 GT Turbo (including wide-arch ones) and the Clio Williams.

If you do import it, do not expect any help from Renault, I have imported a mk1 172 from Hong Kong into the UK and Renault Cannot help me with information i need to get the car registered in the U.K. Apparently they do not hold any information on the vehicle!!

LOL, all i require from them is a letter stating what specification the car was built to, they cannot provide this, so it looks like im looking at laboratory testing on the vehicle to produce a noise and emmisions report @£1060!!

Thanks Jeremy and all. Well, thats it, then, I guess. Suppose Ill have to save up around $45k USD and get me a Lotus Elise...

Thanks again, all.
