Clio V6 Mark 2. Anyone like it

Many people have told me that they see this car as an expensive (I paid £24,000 on May 27th) and bad purchase! :(

Hardly any faster than a 182, they say and not worth the money.

So, is there anyone out there, who can see what I see in this car, a classic, rear-drive, mid-engined sportscar, with 255 bhp from a gorgoeus-sounding V6? Fantastic looks, awesome presence and, when driven in the way this layout demands, hugely fast in most situations. I have seen 155 mph so far.

I am getting the power pushed up close to 300 bhp very soon and I think that it will then be better than any front-engined hot-hatch, for all-round performance, appeal and driving experience.

Any fans of the V6 out there?

TBH, if I could swap my 182 for a V6 I would.

Id love one but I cant afford it, and I couldnt afford the insurance.

However, 25k in my pocket, I prolly buy summat else.

You come on a CLIO forum and ask if anyone likes the 255 V6 Clio.... pointless topic! We do like it mate. Alot. It is a beauty of a car, but Id have a 350Z for the money! <<runs and hides!!>>

Yes its a lovely car, but as mentioned this is probably the wrong place to come for an unbiassed opinion!!

Yeah, Ive driven both models of V6 several times now and the mk2 is the better of the two.

Looks superb, turns heads like nothing Ive driven and sounds superb, but for the price they are not my choice...

Wrong place to come for opinions?

The point I am making, is that people I meet out and about and several more who have posted above on this thread, have said that their money would go elsewhere. Virtually nobody, even here, would buy a new one, they would buy another car and it is this, which I cannot understand.

It just does not seem popular.

Of course, at the end of the day, it means I have a rare car, that is not parked on every bloody street corner, like a boring Civic Type R, so I dont care how few they sell, it keeps the value of mine up, but I am trying to work out why people dont fall for the car, the layout, the sound, the looks and mostly the unique driving experience that no front-drive car can hope to equal.

Its an amazing car, just vastly overpriced for a hot hatch. if money is no object id certainly have one, but then again if you parked it up next to a standard R34 V-Spec II with a few miles on the clock I know which id take, in fact, cant you get a Ferrari 355 F1 for about that price as an import???

shame they never made it 300bhp as they originally planned, then it could have justified its pricetag.

top car!

i have done a track day in a mkII V6 and the nearset thing i can compare it too is a 911

for what it can do it is cheap

good buy my friend, enjoy it!!!!!!!!!

Excellent description and avery nice car, certainly a rae classic and one that should hold some value.

Cost is irrelevant as people will only pay what they think its worth, if it is woth 24k of someones money then it will sell.

Admittedly its 60-100 time is 9.2 secs compare this to 10.4 for cup and 10.7 for 182 (autocar) and it would be unlikly to outrun a cup/182 in the realworld, however above this it should pull away nicely.

EVO have always liked its handling and it came off very well in their trackday times and was on a par with the much quicker (straight line) vx220 turbo around Bedford. So yes it is agreat car and worthy of the name v6 unlike its predecessor

FANTASTIC!!

I have driven everything from a 2CV to a 5.7L V8 Landy Series 1, Mustangs, genuine rally Escort, a WRX and a Honda S2000 to name a few and my 300 yards in a V6 Mark 2 at Chobham for a photoshoot has been the highlight!

I bet a tenner that 90% of the critics have never driven one - all of these FRONT engined cars including the Subaru WRX @ Redline felt very very very ordinary in comparison

a very special car IMO and even better cos its based on a wee hatchback!

but at 100mph it would be 1.5 seconds ahead from 60-100 as you state, and at 100mph 1.5 seconds = 220 or almost 19 car lenghts in front....:D

0-100 dash would be over 2 seconds infront by 100mph and thats = 322 or 27 car lenghts...:D

So performance with looks to match....awesome...;)

if you hadnt guessed it.... I LOVE THE 255 V6 CLIO

Simon:D

Whats better at this price, 24K, brand new?

The Clio V6 is a nice wee car.
It costs a few bob more than some cars.

Other cars are also nice wee cars.
Some cost less than the V6 and some cost more.

Happy driving.

As Mary Poppins once said "It depends on your point of view".

I wanted a powerfull, rear wheel drive, fun car that handled well and went well and would do a few runs to Le-mans. I have two other cars so its lack of storage really doesnt matter.

I drove all the Jap stuff, 350Z, Evos blah blah and the V6, for me, was the best of the bunch.

When people say its slow I generally say there talking bollox. As no car that can do 60 in less than 6 secs is slow. Yes a 182 isnt too far of that pace, but when youre in the V6 you dont care.

I had a 172 and used to say all that stuff "Why pay another 10k when my 172 is just as quick". Then I had the funds to seriously consider a V6, and that was it, I saw just how flawed my old opinions used to be.

Its all down to personal taste, what you can afford, what your personal circumstances are etc etc. Now I have one I cant think of anything Id swap it for.

if i had the money i would definatly buy one. even tho the 350z is virtually the same price u see a lot more of the 350zs compared to the V6. i think on the road ive only ever seen bout 5 mk2 v6. ive seen a lot more than 5 350z.

Enjoy your car and dont worry what everyone else thinks. Their just jealous, i know i am.

in answer to you question v6 .

Its a stunning car and perhaps some of the comments are hiding a jealous streak.

good luck to you as its a great car and dont worry about what others think.

We cancelled our order only because renault were so rude to my finace that we had had enough and went to mitsubishi for the evo as the alernative but while the evo is a great car it must be said the v6 is STUNNING !

we only swapped because of the poor attitude we received from renault over a period of time and had enough but i still love the v6 so dont worry what others say.

"opinions are like assholes ..... everyone has one !!!"

mk2 v6 = Beautiful car

Planning on getting one ... subject to me getting the house extension sorted out for the missus and having enough ££ left at the end of that. Looks great ... sounds great ... rare too. My ideal car since I (a) like hot hatches and (b) like bigger engines. Only car that I know that takes a nice engine and puts it in the right shaped body for my tastes!

Yes, quality seems better so far.

K-tec are supplying me with a full exhaust, minus cats., next week, so looking at an increase of around 15 bhp there, they say.

A cool air system (forgive me if I have quoted them wrongly in terminology) will give another 15, they added.

So, up to 285 bhp very shortly.:)

Will sound awesome, too.

Buggered if I can remember now and I cant be bothered to look it up on their site! Have a look, the prices are there, I believe.

Sorry, it is time for some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs.

Nice to know that this car is not quite as universally disliked as I thought. Not that I would have considered selling.

Impractical? Yes. Noisy? Certainly. Unnecessary? Probably.

But enormously enjoyable and, well, plain HORNY!:D

hehe.. I think he likes it! :D ur be in good company here.. we are all one big family at the end of the day.. V6s ...225 Meganes... 182s... 172s..etc..etc just enjoy it!! : )

Id love to be in the position to be able to afford to spend that sort of money on a car... *sigh*

In all honesty I dont think there is too much else in with a shout for the money, (obviously depending on personal taste and priorities) if we are talking new but obviously if secondhand options are thrown in then thats a whole different ball game. Very nice cars though and its good to be different whatever anyone else thinks !

This is my post for Mr Clio V6 2004. I think the Mk2 V6 is an absolute beast. I bet its fast as f**k, but certainly looks the dogs b****cks! Since they have been released, I have only seen 1 in Bristol or anywhere for that matter.

So the question to ask is, would you pay £24k, for one of the rarest 255bhp cars on the road, um...yes!!! So unlike everyone going buy a 350z, I seen like one of those everyday, its not about having the same car as everyone else, its about being different!!

N8

P.S - When everyone else has got £24k to spend on a car, tell them to come back and talk to you then!!!

Good choice I say ;)

Where some people miss the point, I think, about how fast or otherwise the V6 is, revolves around how it puts the power out.

Whereas with the 172 or 182, you have to rev them very hard to get the performances that keep getting quoted, (a Civic Type R needs even more abuse, as it is gutless below 6000rpm), the V6 is awake by 3000 revs and you can then cover ground very quickly by short-shifting.

The Clio 172/182 are superb abd incredible value, but the V6 engine is very different, much gruntier and charismatic.

It will also rev very well if you floor it, mine is loosening up nicely, just had a short blast today. 140 mph, with a gear to go, too much about to go any faster.

I like the look of them but if i were spending that amount it would not be my choice. There are other nice cars in that price range id go for first.

Whats important though is your opinion.I hope comments like mine dont spoil it but im only giving my opinion.

I know CTR owners who say they would never buy a 182 but knickers to them.....i love mine and thats the main thing :D
