clio v6 mk2 or mk5 golf gti??

  golf r32 dsg
wanting to change the car again was looking at getting another vee, but also looking at a golf gti...

duno if anyone on ere as had both?

wat would you recommend?

There completly different cars the GTi is usable the V6 somehting completly different.

I'd get the GTI and regred it all the time but its more usable and cheaper plus a less scary drive on the limit.

Golf Mk5 in white

agree. with the optional larger alloys.

Knows it :rasp:

The Vee is a great car but I would struggle to spend over £10k on a french car with shocking french build quality. Its tolerable on a sub 10k Clio but when your spending twice that, not thanks, can't beat German build quality.
The Golf is alot more useable, I would never have a vee as my only car, theres no enough space for some of my hobbies or to take my mates out. If your going to have a specialist car that can't be used every day due to practicality issues you may as well go all the way and get an Elise/ Exige or a Caterfield.

You ever driven a mk2 v6 or even owned one?

exactly my thoughts... the man speaks sense:approve:

For the me the Vee is for people who want to spend lots of cash and stay in a clio.

Im not saying its crap, its just not particularly quick or particularly good at cornering, it does attract attention, and I appreciate the styling.

ummm Golf or a v6 clio? lol yea...

you say it like 90% of the population would agree with you but they wouldnt.

Also your always going to defend you own choice...if you listen to the points being made, you might grasp the discussion better...;)

For 15k -20k. 2 seater, impractical car, VXR220 or an elise 111s.

No to both. Would love to drive one but I would never own one.
I would not spend V6 type money on a Clio. Ever. If I become a millionaire one may make it into my dream garage, but I could not justify owning one, just too impractical as a main car, and as a second car I would go for something even more hardcore, Elise etc. At the end of the day its still a Clio.

Fair point.

I didn't buy my mk2 v6 for the "performance" or knowing how "impractical it would be" (for the record it isn't that bad)

I bought it because for the exclusivity and the crazy design. Sod owning a boring lotus which every mother fucker out there drives.

  2 wheel power
Depends what your after doesnt it. If you want all the attention then a v6. Although I just couldnt justify driving a 2 seater car, as much as I'd love a v6 I couldnt justify it

golf, pah, rubbish

EVERYONE says the V6 is impractical, its not!! awesome car, just expensive to run everyday

This topic really interests me, because I have a love/hate relationship with the vee. Firstly, lol @ "boring Lotus" - ever driven an Elise?

Okay so moving on, it's no secret that I actually think the Clio V6 looks s**t, and close up, the detailing is horrid - it really does look like a Clio with a body kit. Like an ill-fitting wig IMO. As a car to drive, I can't comment as I've never driven one, and I'm sure it is full of character and very rewarding, but (for me) it's still a very expensive Clio. HOWEVER, part of me still wants to own one, and I think if I drove one I'd own one the following day...

The Golf GTi MkV might be more pratical, but then £20k+ for a car that's basically slower and less fun than a 182? No thanks. Although again, I have not driven the Golf.

Tricky choice for me. The Golf would not be on my shopping list, but the Vee would. Sort of. Just now I'm doing mega motorway miles and I need a boot to hold bags containing two weeks worth of clean undercrackers and two laptops, so a vee may not be too practical at all. 350z or S2000 is more suited to me just now if I upgrade to "exotic" and a Golf isn't exotic anyway, whereas the Vee certainly is...despite being an expensive Clio yadda yadda...

If you put a gun to my head on this one, I'd choose the V6 and pile my clean Y-fronts and twin laptops in the passenger foot well.

  182, SRT8, RS4, GT-R
No brainer to me. V6. The GTI is less rewarding than the 182. I don't think i'd like to take a step 'back' when buying a new car or replacing my old one.

Adam....this is all very easy for you to say, lol, you drive a minted RB5 ;)

you see golf gti's and say nothing , you see a clio V6 and say WOW .... A V6 , bit more in your face , agree it's not as practical but you didn't buy it for that :rasp:

  An orange one
v6 anyday of the week

plus...for all the build quality issues..even my 2001 mk1 vee with 28k on the clock doesnt have a single rattle anywhere...my mums 182 FF on a 54 with 8000 miles rattles like a b**ch everywhere!

the vee's are a step up everywhere in terms of general build quality, i guess people who have never even driven one wont appreciate this.

golf gti is a very nice car...especially in white..with the polished 18's..but..not really a good comparison?

on a separate note though, theres a blue 3door R32 going around carlisle..and it stands out less than any GTi ive seen! shocking attempt at at £26000 golf IMHO!!

What makes me laugh is the people saying the golf isnt rewarding to drive or that it's slow. Utter b****cks, perhaps they should actually drive one before making statements about how it handles/performs.

wanting to change the car again was looking at getting another vee,

I think some may have missed the important word.

yes mate i think they did.
ive had in the past 4 years three 182s a vx220 and a mk2 v6.

the v6 is a awesum machine gets the looks and the sound make me shoot ma load lol.

i no there 2 diffrent cars but the gti is very tunable and as more space, the v6 stands out and the build quality is far superior on the v6 than the 182 but not as good as the gti.

if i got a v6 i would probbly want to change in a few years because of the lack of space but cant afford to run 2 cars.

im also looking at a r32 mk5 later today they also sound quality.

Agreed^

Same for the comments about the v6...

I've driven a golf gti all the way to Wales and I personally think it's a great car. It's completely different to a v6 which is why I think this thread is ridiculous.

You don’t buy a V6 for the performance or the handling; you buy it because of its looks and "exclusivity"

So you can’t just say "oh for the money you should have bought a lotus"

Yes we know that, which is exactly why I didn't buy a boring lotus. Oh and for the record I have driven one and yes they are fantastic, but they look like utter crap.

  golf r32 dsg
it aint ridiculous matey i just wanted to see people pros n cons for the two.

as for the lotus or v6 id say v6 all the way... v6 is much more exclusive and better looking

  106 GTi
I think what people are saying is comparing the Vee to a Golf GTi is odd as they are very different cars.
