my old vr6 with remap and a decent filter made 197 bhp, and timed 0-60 in 6.81 and 1/4 mile in 14.8@97mph and gps'd at 147mph, so if its std you will prob have him off the line, then it will be about the same till higher speeds

Dont think you will look silly at all..but a lot of peeps under estimate VR6's...as they are "old".

i think though it cums down to the driver as well dont it, in the gear changers and things like that,
knowing when and how to change fast and keeping the speed up
they'll have to catch me first mate :rasp:

^^^^^personal opinion but as an ex vr6 owner i dissagree, my 172 is about the same up to 90 then my old vr would leather my clio, and that was the same result with other clio's i raced, until we got to a corner, even with avo coilovers my old golf didnt handle as well as my clio does even when it had a snapped spring lol

ive had a few tussles with vr6s. 172 pulled away each time. Slowly tho

its as with any car,a badly looked after vr would loose horribly to a clio, a good one would be faster, its all relative

but the win was sooo slight it was pathetic.. like less than 1/2 a clio length and it took ages to get there. There is probably nothing in it and dont underestimate em.

my mates highline made 197bhp on the rollers with a full exhaust system and some fancy air filter induction kit thing and no matter what speed there was nothing in it at all against my 182 and my 182 wasn't a slow un
As said though, his was on a full koni suspension kit iirc and it still handled so bad lol.

172 cup
Since my 172 cup was stolen 3 weeks ago (been recovered but still haven't got it back yet!) I've been driving round in my Dad's VR6 because it's his spare car. Anybody that says a Clio will easily beat a VR6 is kidding themselves!
My Clio is far more responsive, wants you to drive it faster and handles corners much better but the Golf is an animal in a straight line. It's cruise around at 1,500 rpm happily all day but when you do put your foot down it really goes and doesn't stop pulling until well into triple figures. There's also far more torque which people forget about. It may only produce 174 bhp but the torque is massively more than our Clio's.
Having said all that I'd rather have my Clio back!!!

well been out and used up £15 worth of petrol in 20mins ;(
and i can safely say that the clio is faster 0-90
and 90-140 there about the same, and on the lanes the VR6 is just a dot in the rear view mirror.
but still the VR6 is a really nice car, but the clios better by far

Just reckon it was a dodgy non looked after VR6...think of all the gunk thats built up in a car that age..other factors like the chains and cam followers are most likely naffed...try racing one thats just been rebuilt..will defo be a different outcome.

I had a run in with a VR6 in my clio 182 and i beat him off the lights but he did keep up with me up to about 130 then we both had to jump on the brakes cos some tosser in a bmw thought it would be funny/clever to pull out infront of me.

I got shot of my v6 4motion, wouldn't touch the cup! (maybe only 100mph+) Miss the nice torque though!

I played with a VR6 on my private road from 35 to 120 magic roundabouts per hour and I gradually pulled away from him in every gear, I used to sit level with them in my standard 5 turbo until 90/100 as well

before a got my clio, i wa going to get a vr6, and swap the old tired lump with a 24v r32 engine.
like said well kept vr's are torque mosters. and will surprise a few people, but most are knackard now,
so watch out for the clean ones with a proud hippy driver
