Clutch going????

Riiight

Last night my clutch slipped which seems strange as its not very old and its a uprated R5 Turbo one rated to 250ft/lbs of torque.

I thought i'd check so i did two starts from a standstill and both times it slipped. Then i went to the cinema with the mrs and after i tryed it again. I tryed bout 5 times and it was perfect?! f**k knows whats happening?! I thought that when they go, they go!

Any ideas? Is it going?

normally once they've gone they've gone. however my old punto one slowly got worse, admitedly that was because the driveshaft had a leak tho.

best bet is to monitor it and make sure it does it all the time before taking it somewhere to get looked that (my gf had that problem with her punto)

Mine slipped the other night... right through 1st and 2nd gear!!!! Ok, admittedly it wasnt my best footwork, but.. sheesh...

..then; its perfect again... Although I'm ocassionaly getting a squeak when I pull away... do clutches squeak?????? Or is this a belt?

squeak will be a belt.

Tom stick it in 5th at 30mph and floor it and see if it slips or not. my 1.2 16V clutch got worse and worse over months then just wouldnt pull away at all! is your bite point quite high?

When my clutch went in my valver- there was no signs of it slipping, when it packed up it just packed up (I was in the process of changing gear at the time) the revs just flew up & I clocked what had happened - when I got out the smell was awful !

high performance clutches like Tom's more often than not just 'go' due to the compound they are made of. Like Martin said, put in in 3rd of 4th at low revs and floor it.

i have a 'grp n' clutch on my 172 from a previous owner and it seems fine. although it's a juddery b*stard in town traffic, you can be proper brutal with it out of town.

My valver did this. sliped occationally, put it down to an inferior product or maybe contamination of some sort. changed it for a decent one and is fine now.

Where did you get the clutch from. need to get a new one for my new engine.
