posting this on behalf of a mate, basically he has just fitted a clutch in to his car, it will go in to gear when the engine is off, but wont when it is running??
Has he fitted the drive plate the right way round and checked the clutch release mechanism working properly?, does it make any noises when trying to engage a gear?.
I'd get the clutch release fork and see how solid it seems.Even try and lever it a bit further and see if it goes into gear.Surely if he's competent enough to do a clutch he wouldn't forget about the cable.
I had the same thing happen though water had got in and rusted the clutch to the flywheel.Unless it is the cable your mates got the crap job of having to do it all again unfortunetly.
