Coil overs for fast road use that dont break the bank

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
So on Julys planned mods comes coilovers :D.. been looking through k-tecs site & seen they have a few kits for the 172.. My first choice was the H&R's which look ace but at nearly £800 & being mainly aimed at track use i think these would never be worth the cash, right??

So after doing a few searches on here its seems that i cant go wrong providing i spend atleast £500 & dont get any thing with the word GAZ in it lol.. so fav at the moment - http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=1383

Now how do you guys rate the FK coil overs? also as i plan to use a fast road setup & dont plan to tweek the damping do you guys reckon the fixed damping will be suited to me, bare in mind the H&R's are fixed damping too so i'm told or do i pay the extra & get the adjustable damping?

I'm just aiming for fast road set-up with no major track days in mind.. so just your thoughts would be ace guys, dont wanna waste £500 on some thing thats going to make the car handle like a trolley, i'm happy to sacrfice comfort in favor of imporved handling ;)

i got fk konigsports for £500 delivered and got them within 14 days. I love my setup at the moment. Im glad I purchased these for the ph1. the handling and ride is great.

coming along nicely then jamesstone

Oh she is mate :approve: , there is another new toy in the post, lets just say its some thing like what tezza installed on the williams  , so the little 172 may be a touch louder... & hopefully quicker  There is a long list of mods.. just apprentice salary restricts them coming sooner :dapprove: lol

2.0 install does sound a mission.. sum could say scary! can give a hand but thats gonna be a job & a half, have you decided to fix your 1.2 or start the conversion? you could say its a sign!

when i get a full time job, shell be garaged and the transformation will eventualy take place, not too long! winter of this year matey, and i know whats in the post, guna be nice a nice little rasp herd ;) youll have to take me out! maybe youll pull a little better from the williams ;) gotta love the banter aye :p

Yea course can take ya for a little drive, would have done at the last meet but amy wanted to come along & couldnt just go off driving while leaving her there lol, gonna have a go at installing my new.. erm.. centre section  this weekend, then hopefully its gonna fly :D

  Petrol Blue 182.

Fk konigsports will be reet mate.

Id pay £530 from ktec though if they have them in stock rather than wait forever!

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
boy have i got plans for that car haha she doesnt even know it yet!

Another euro in the works then?

Just do what i do, use the gf's small 1.1 206 for all the shite driving like parking in tesco where every c**t has to smash there door on yours or throw a trolley into your pride & joy  so that way i can put coil overs on mine & gut the rear & not have to worry about the.. this is not practical.. blah blah lol

  Petrol Blue 182.
haha nah not euro on that, it came with 172 alloys on it, its a light blue colour so there going white and shes gna be droped 40-60mm (she still wants to be abel to go over speed bumps aparently) women

Thing is pep the ones limca got are the adjustable damping ones which cost nearer £650 from k-tec, pep you reckon the non adjustable damping ones from k-tec will still keep me planted & happy on the road? only wanna drop it 20-30mm max, that cup splitter loves getting so close already :dapprove: would of done the eibachs but by the time the rear is gutted it would need to be something like 50mm lowering springs as the weight loss is surely gonna take it up 10-20mm

  M2 Competition
The konigsports are all adjustable??

The highsports are the non-adjustable.

Whats the name of the non adjustable ones for £530 from ktec?

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Also doesnt say you can adjust the height of the rears, surely they have just forgot to right that down??:S

  Petrol Blue 182.
ohh yeah the dampening on mine isnt adjustable, but the rest are, including the rear, can drop the rear a max of 70mm, take the adjustable plate out so its just on a spring and youll be sittin at 90mm

I think you will find the FK's springs too hard to make a good handling car on most British roads. I had KonigSports on my tuned 172 and removed them as the handling was poor on bumpy roads, even dangerous when the bumps were harsh. Even good A roads have uneven sections amd bumps, that can catch you out with no notice. The ride was harsh and the car bounced on all the bumps, not good on a fast road car. Most people fit these to lower the car and make it look good. I wanted the car to handle well and be reasonably comfortable even at high speed. As I wasn't prepared to pay H&R money I bought a Koni Kit, running the same adjustable shocks as the Konig sports and -30mm Koni springs which are a little firmer than the Eibachs. All for around £400, money well spent as it works very well.

All ways good to hear diffrent peoples views :) , have you got a link for the ones you bought mate?

JUst had a look at the konis on k-tecs site, dont really fancy them, no sign of camber adjust as standard either where as the fk's do, did you really find them that bad mate? have been reading up & it seems alot of people really love the fks :S

  RB 182 cup
i think its all down to how you define hard, i have apex springs on mine and im looking at coilovers now, people have said the apex are hard but i think there quite soft lol compair to any of my other cars ive had

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Thats what i was thinking too mate, for example, living on standard suspension > coilovers is going to be harsh, have had the old 1.2 lowered 35mm & it was harder.. but! i loved the feel you got back from the road, providing i didnt have a banging head ache lol.. really need to find a few people that have the fk coilovers

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Yea that may give me sum idea, chassis on a 1.2 & 2.0 are some what similiar :) , how is the euro machine, sourced an engine? couz how did you find the fk's in terms of handling?

  Petrol Blue 182.
got the top end from my original clio to go on matey! went to tow it today and the tow eye pinge dout whilst being towed down to where it was gna be fixed, so now its abandonde at the local shops! not nice :( and i find the handling fuckin brilliant its basicaly impossible to loose my car in the dry, but being a 1.2 its gna be some what diffrent to a 2.0?

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Sweet, hopefully the fk's for the 2l are just as good, just dont wanna spend £500+ & think great i can lower it but it drives like a trolley lol

Sorry to hear about the car mate, been there, 1.2 gave me soooo much grief i even said repeatadly i would never buy a french car again! but there just so much fun for the £££ :approve:

If you need a hand i should be around on the weekend, had my d7f 1.2 top end off twice.. first time was the cambelt.. second time was the head gasket a year later  ... loves it lol

  Petrol Blue 182.
haha yeah ok mate hopefully will be ok before then tho! once i find a way of towing it

H&R eveytime, had the misfortune of GAZ :dead:
