Coilover Reccommendations

Hey I'm new here, and for starters I dont have a clio, my friend does. Its an S-reg Mk2 Ph1 I think (all these phases and marks are a tad confusing) and he's looking to lower it. Around about the 60mm mark would be good, but I dont like the idea of a fixed value for ride height, that sounds very restricting. But he's the boss and said he doesnt want to shell out for coilies, and that lowering springs are the way he wants it. Sooo I found these Rokkor ones on ebay for the same ballpark money as lowering springs and dampers, and I was wondering if they are any good. I've seen some threads on here about them, and feedback seems ok. The car probably wont ever be tracked, and he wants it 'on the deck' so to speak, so purely for looks; any handling benefits are just a bonus. Although he'll never get away with claims that it handles that well, since I'm a mini driver and know better

So yeah, verdict on these badboys? i'll get a link if anyone needs it, but I'm fairly sure the people who can help will know the ones. Are they up to it? How long will they last? And mainly why the giant price cut?

Seem ok, won't fit your friends car though, wrong bolt spacing IIRC.

Aw gutted, the ebay advert was in German so I couldnt make heads or tails of it. Which type are they meant to fit then? Is it a case of no-way-jose, or can they be made to fit with a bit of tinkering?

Would either need to alter the spacing on the units themselves or change the hubs and what not and convert them to the ph2 setup.

you can probably make them fit, but personally, short of spending 1k plus i'd go for koni's and springs.

Can either of you elaborate on those options? What are the differences between the two phases' hub assemblies then? I thought that the two were pretty much the same underneath? But I'm no expert lol. When you mention Koni's, you mean the dampers yeah? What springs would you reccommend? And I'm not intersted in the Sportlines, they dont offer enough of a drop. Has anyone tried fitting this type of coilover to a ph1? (Long shot, but worth it ) I'm guessing the fronts would take more fiddling than the back right?

Just for reference, before anyone starts slagging cheep coilovers, i fitted a set of £200 jamex coilovers to my mates VR6. The build quality was in no way anyworse off than my £1300 Teins i had at the time.

So far the cheapest coilovers i can see for the Mk2 Ph1 are upwards of £250, could someone point me in the direction of some cheaper ones that are made for the job? Or am I better off trying to modify the Rokkor ones to fit?

£250 for some coilovers isn't a lot of money when you consider a good set of springs is £140 so you're getting adjustable shocks for £110!!!

Too much effort that, just get some made for the ph1, as said they are still cheap even at £250 as you say.

I hear the only cons of cheap coilovers is they rust over time and therefore adjusting them is no easy task.

Then theres the handling aspect but as you say there just for the looks so I guess that your not bothered.

Adjusting them is only a problem, because itiots just throw them on.

Copper slip and wrap the treads in tape Works every time

Ok cool, so can someone show me where to find cheap coilovers made to fit this car? Because so far all the ones I've seen for cheap exclude the 1.2
