Coilover springs on rear!?

  Clio172 / Focus Ti X
Got the chance at some coil over springs well cheap for the rear end of my motor!:approve:

basically i was looking at getting apex springs, but have found a set of rear coilover springs and adjusters on their own (everything minus shocks)

I can get the standard shocks machined by a mate to make them shorter so i can fit the coilover springs without using too much of the shocks travel and screwing it up.

the up side of doing this is so i can adjust the rear to sit lower than the 40mm kit does so the rear of the car isnt still looking like its on stilts.

What you guys think?

"machining your rear dampers???"

You're mad!

Just buy some apex springs and destroy your standard dampers - you might not kill yourself.

OR

Do as most would and just buy some Eibach Sportline springs...

Yoz is right...... Why not just cut your Springs aswell if you're going to go about Shortenig your dampers then you will end up with a truly crap handling car

If you cant afford to do it properly then dont touch it at all is my way of thinking as im sure most will agree!!

you machine the threads on top of the shock down a bit or something. so you arent using any of the shocks travel when you lower the car. just saying what my mate told me!

yoz, i asked if it was a good idea or not, not if i need mental help! eibachs dont lower it enough for what im wanting

what if i bought some good shocks then would it be any better? im only talking putting the rear 10mm lower than what the apex's would. just so it can sit better at the back.

surely its possible, whats the dampening difference with a good aftermarket shock and a shock from coilovers?

depends how low you want to go mate. if say 70mm then you can probably get away with using aftermarket shocks made for 60mm springs anymore than that then i woulnt chance it. i think a better cost effective way is to save a wee bit more and get a full set of coilovers

im only looking to go 50mm maybe 55mm tops.

just so i can save for coilovers in the mean time. im getting the springs for pennies
