coilovers, scrubbage when cornering hard

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
when cornering / going around roundabouts the tyre is catching on something in the wheel arch, this is annoying the hell out of me.

is this a common problem with lowered 182s?

what will the tyre be catching on, is it a bracket for the arch lining or bumper?

thus is how the car sits, its low but not stupid low;

catches on the inner arch near where the bumper bolts to mine does the same if you look in there your see where its rubbing away

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
have you any pictures of this?

any more detail?

i dont have a jack anymore so i cant have a look myself (it packed in last week and leaked oil everywhere)

  Dodgy one
I bet thats catching the inner wing and the bumper bracket, The inner wing seems to be pretty solid and doesnt persuade very easy

smaller tyres, thanks.

is there anything i can remove from the archto stop this rubbing?

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
i read somewhere there is something you can trim under the arch that stops the rubbing?

Is this a serious thread? It's scrubbing on the arches...What would you consider to be a 'sensible' remedy? & you've already mentioned it above!

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
its not overly low, there are far lower clios out there so they must do something to get the clearance.

its not rubbing when driving normally, cornering hard its catching on something and i dont know what. this is an issue i want to address quick time and raising the front up isnt an option. so if you have nothing productive to post then dont post at all.

thanks

is there anything in the arches i can trim back? i read somewhere about the plastic in the arch that can be trimmed, but i dont know which piece of plastic needs trimming.

i had a search and couldnt find much on it, whats that Si?

have you a picture of what it looks like standard so i know how much plastic to remove?

Its blatantly obvious when you look under the car at the arch liners,

Mine had been scrubbing on the actual arch id gone through the liner, missed the bracket though, a bit of a lift was neccesary and bending the bumper bracket out the way just as a precaution i wouldnt be surprised if you have to do the same!

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
thank you

like i said, my jack has given up on me so i cant take the wheel off to have a look at whats been catching

Raise the car. That's the 'productive' message i was insinuating from above. Got to love CS mentality.

Wouldn't you rather have a car that handles properly, doesn't scrub and doesn't look like it's been lowered on cut springs.

Mine handles properly, Ali.

Looking at your v6 you're hardly in a position to comment.

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
like i said, raising the car isnt an option because the coilovers are seized. the previous owner of the car didnt maintain the coilovers or grease them.

so cant just raise back up. hence the thread, and it does handle properly thank you.

the car isnt even that low;

Ignore the plastic trimming. It's the metal bracket mine was rubbing on. The arch lining destroyed itself on the way to the Nurburgring. so I had to rip the remains off, that's why that's a mess.

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
lol, ok thanks for your help mate. ill cut some of the plastic away and bend the bracket up abit like you have done.

cheers Si

I haven't done any bending. I trimmed it. Some bend it bu I found trimming it was easier as it means it still connects to the front bumper easily.

  CBR1000RR Fireblade
attack it with a grinder?

what profile tyres did you use on what size alloys?

i have 16s with 205 / 45 / 16 tyres on

Are you not on 15's Si...That makes a difference too.

If you want to go low (From my 1.2 days) you need to bent the bumper brackets, but then if you need to get the bumper off it's a nightmare.

Wouldn't advise removing the liners either!...

I've only removed the front liner. Well... it removed itself. It just makes a mess of the inside of the front bumper.

Yes, I'm on 15s. Good point but I'm on a 50 profile so not miles different in terms of overall size.

Yeh, true. I also find the tyre design makes a difference. I.e PS2 have a square shoulder, whereas the Vredesteins are more curved.

  PH2 172
it is the bumper bracket alot of people just hit the bracker up at a angle to stop the rubbing i havnt got round to doin mine yet im just letting the tyres rub the arch away abit more haha... as well as 15" F1s are goin on soon
