cold air feeds

has anyone replaced the cold air feed pipe on the 172 cup but kept the airbox and just replaced the panel filter?
just wondered if its worth doing or not?

I did that on my 182, replaced the panel filet to ITG. Changed the top inlet pipe to samco and change the bottom inlet pipe to samco as well. stuck a 90 degree 2.5 " pipe into the whole of the airbox. Its very hard for it to come out cos it goes deep into the hole.
