Cold start abit rought

  Black 182
Car feels like pile of pants first startup of the day, any reason why??? its fine once warmed up. any ideas, its like its holding back on me.

Nothing to worry about mate. From cold when you put your foot down it won't feel smooth and very lumpy. After a few mins it's fine. Pretty normal as I said :)

  PH1 iceburg
I normlly let mine idle for about 5 mins, it is fine after that.

Also noticed using shell v power or tesco 99 ron helped it significantly.

If its not stalling nothing to worry about, all RS's are lumpy from cold, rule of thumb is 15mins to warm up before giving it the beans.

  RS 172+
I think someone on here said something like start off gently, warm her up properly, and then you can thrash the pants off her...

Don't tell the dragon at home ;)

  172 Cup
I do get a few funny looks when im sitting in my car for 10mins twiddling my thumbs waiting for it to warm up, even had a couple of dim wits ask if its a turbo lol

I am pretty sure there is an inhibitor built into the engine ecu that limits revs when the engine is cold to stop you revving the s**t out of it, when i first start my 182 up and drive off, it feels like i have left the handbrake on a little, which is the holding back you describe, 10-15 secs later and the car feels normal again.

Think of a Clio RS like you with a hangover. You wake up, feel like s**t and have last nights beer and takeaway taste in your mouth. By about lunch time when you've had a nice fry up and watched some Hollyoaks on Sunday morning TV you're ready to go :)

I get a similar problem, feels like it holds back then it hits about 2700rpm and then revs fine :S Only ever happens when leaving work though, any other time (even leaving the house first thing on a morning) its fine! :S

Same on the 197 fella. It kangaroo bops on me too some mornings, usually it's fine after a couple of minutes but I've had instances where it hasn't and has taken a good 15 mins - mine tends to lose power at around 3/4k if you don't change gear when it's cold. When it's been on 5/10 mins changing is usually at about 5k or more.

Think there all the same, my 8 year old Phase 1 is rough from cold also.

What fuel are you running it on? I find V power makes mine run a little smoother

Soooo glad i read this thread :)

My 182 is exact same when i leave work, i just thought it was cause it's cold, and after reading this i assumed right!

Paranoia is over.

I get that too but sometimes if you hold it at 2000 revs its sounds like its missing, let a mechanic have a look at it at my old work and he said it could be coil packs ??? not sure if he is right but when I get round to changing them I will let everyone know if it makes any difference.

  None :(
i had to do that on my 1.6 clio Rsi, i had to change the coils a lot :( seem's like its common for clios then ?

But yeah spot on, if you can let us know if it made any difference.

I started to cycle to work, because im home between 7 - 10 minutes, so engine aint even warm by then. (+ bike is quicker because of traffic)

So im saving the fuel, and mileage on the car, and i get a bit of exercise, dunno if ill be saying the same in the winter tho ;)
