Cold starting...

This morning the 182 wouldn't start first time. Ignition fired up as per normal, turned over to nothing, similar to a flat battery. Tried again and second time it took about 2 seconds but turned over and idled fine.

It was quite cold but not so cold as for the windows to be iced. Now it'll deffinatley get colder during the winter and I've a feeling this will get worse!

Any suggestions as to what it could be? Or any products that could help reduce cold start issues?

I used to work for Halfrauds when I was younger and we had lots of people come in and buy 'cold start' but I have no idea how it works or how to use it. If it needs putting in once a month, or each time you wish to start?

I'm awaiting details of my free health check from the weekend at Renault to arrive so may well find that spark plugs or something else needs sorting.

Car in question is a 182.

Any help would be great,

Thanks,

BennyC

I had this issue with mine soon after I first got it.
Initially I didn't know what the problem was, but I had another common issue where the trip computer was resetting every time the engine was turned off. Turns out that replacing the battery fixed that and the cold start issue.

Might not be relevant to you, but may be worth getting your battery tested. Halfrauds do it for free IIRC.

Hi benny,

The 'Cold Start' product you talk of.. im assuming is this...

product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_221705_langId_-1_categoryId_165750
product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_221705_langId_-1_categoryId_165750

You basicaly spray the stuff directly into your air intake, preferably not onto the filter though. its good stuff, and will give the car a kick start, in the same way an energy drink will give a human being. but you dont wana be using this all the time as engines seem to become dependant on it after i while (a bit like a drug i suppose).

Thanks for the replies.

As I thought with the cold start, more of a band aid than a solution.

I do think it is something to do with the battery as it was recently replaced by the RAC. I'd fitted my amp & sub in which flattened my other battery. It was the original battery from 5 years ago and as I needed to use the car early next morning I didn't have time to charge it as such so had them fit a new battery.

He had nothing on system for a 2.0litre clio but did for a V6 which was obviously too big for the battery mount! So we matched the battery up from the cold cranking amps on the original battery to one he had in his van.

It just sounds a bit laboured starting up as opposed to springing into action like it did with the old battery, if that makes sense?

As it's idling fine and doesn't sound like a tractor, judder the car or engine wobble I deffinatley think it's something to do with a starting element somewhere. I have a Halfords quite local to me. Would it involve running the battry down there or can it be done whilst fitted to the car?
