colour code my black bits

  Clio 2002
Hi all

i really want to colour code the following

side plates
spoiler
wing mirrors

any advice for me?

iv never sprayed a car before and would appreciate where to buy the kit from

you'll need Primer, Paint and Lacquer as well as various grades of sand paper. there's plenty of videos online about how to do it if you're just using spray-cans, you can get pistol-grip style aerosol adapters too if you feel that'll make it easier for you to spray the paint on.

You can theoretically get everything you need from the likes of halfords, though sometimes their paint in cans isn't always an exact match, especially if your colour has a few shades, you can always get it made up at a bodyshop if you wished.

Then you sand the parts down to 'key' them, this gives the primer something to grab onto on the surface, let it dry and sand back again using finer grades, then once it's flat and primed, spray the paint on making sure not to spray it too close or heavy to prevent running.
Then once you're finished with the paint coats, you lacquer it up to protect the paint and give it the glossy finish. A video wil lshow you in much greater detail though.

The above is all theory, I'm hoping to do my strips and mirrors soon, but I left my cup spoiler into a spray-shop to have it done properly!

Pretty much as above mate. I done my side strips (rear) on Monday & I'm doing my fronts today as I haven't got enough plastic primer or pearl black spray! I used different grades of wet & dry paper to key the plastics. Sprayed 3 coats of primer with a flat in between coats. Then 3 coats of pearl black, & 2 coats of clear lacquer. Others probably do it differently but this worked for me! The only thing I've sprayed before is the clio badge & BMX frames back in the day lol. The strips turned out great (I think), & look much better than before!
