Colour coding car problems!

I got an estimate on colour coding my cars black bumpery thingys and they said they weren;t sure if it was a good idea, in fact they said they wouldnt recommend it as they thought that if i did it the paint would chip off in the wash...has any1 had these problems or know of a solution to it chipping? mayb another type of paint or sealant or something...i know a lot of people do it and could really do with some advice. Cheers guys/gals.

ive had my car fully colour coded, as have many others.

Still looks mint, cept my side bump strips. Mainly cause they were painted by a poor bodyshop and I didnt get the 172 smooth side strips.

Sounds like the bodyshop wouldnt know how to do it properly, so theyre trying to give you the brush off.

I can be done, and looks awesome if done right. Just get another bodyshop who are happy to do it colour code it.

Also, get a look at other work the bodyshop have done, will give you an idea of how itll look, and how good the job they will do is.

Spoken to manager of bodyshop who has one of the best names in Scotland. He says that if not done correctly and bumpers not prepared correctly then paint will flake off with stone chips etc. Better to buy side moulds and handles from 172 that are already prepared.

He phoned Renault for me and they said that they couldnt supply the front and rear bumper inserts though. Does anyone know if this is true about the front and rear inserts?

here we go

i can supply the front inserts and a rear bumper, all they need is stripped down and resprayed (not the front inserts - they are still in black plastic)

renault can suppply you with the parts, but they are expensive

You shouldnt need to buy the 172 handles or strips tho if the body shop prepare them properly right?

yeah sounds like to me they aint done it before & therefor cant guarentee the work... the guy i spoke to who lives near me (reading) seemed to know what i was on about straight away therefor he has obviously done it before! & i get discount there now due to a certain incident that happened with my dads car.... but that shouldnt put u off dingdong

ermmmmmmmm, well mate.... this shouldnt worry you.... but my dads car was in there overnight..... (BMW Z3 Roadster) & it kinda got nicked :S lol, I found it a couple of weeks later tho.... They drove it thru the garage doors, but they are all good mate, they have tightened security, and a red hard top z3 is a bit more of a wanted car than a clio so you dont have anything to worry about!!!! & i doubt ur car will be in there overnight will it?! lol, really, mate, it was a first for them & it was just unlucky! im still getting mine done there tho coz i know their sprayer is wicked!

Errrrr. errrr..... yeah, they want it for a few days..... Where did it actually get nicked from? Inside their workshop?

This is definatly the strangest recommendation ive ever had... "They spray brillaintly, go to them" "But theres only 1 small thing... ure car might get nicked" lol!

Im sorry mate, I thought Id better tell you.... But It was just bad luck! coz it was a first for them, & it was a rare car so therefor wanted by certain people!

& it got nicked from inside their workshop yeah.... ask them where they keep the keys mate! make sure they dont leave them in the workshop....!

But dont worry mate, it wont happen to you!!! I feel really bad now

My dad isnt holding a grudge tho... He wasnt even angry with the people there, Coz hes still letting me take my car there tho coz he knows how good they are! it was just unfortunate!

yeah mate, what bambam said, try someone else! the people me n dingdong are going to get it done said they will guarentee the work for one year. not sure who has had problems within this time period or after tho if any?
