Come on JD help me out!!!!

  Bumder With A Buffer
could be, but surely the more I stick on the better shine? Its a odd wax because its hard like a candel, normally use megs but like i say this was a pain to get off which put me off it straight away

NO!

Less is better. All your doing by putting lots on is wasting product. It makes no difference putting lots on. Sure 2 "THIN" coats would be okay but not putting it on thick.

The trick with Collinite is one panel at a time..put it on then buff it off right away after finishing the panel.

the weather maybe was against me as it was cold, will give it another go with a smaller layer. what about that im usng a polishing cloth, surely that has nothing to do with it?

Lots of people get hung up on brands. I'd class myself as quite keen when the weather nice. Have a PC with all the Menz ploishes. However by hand you dont need all the desighner brands imo

I use,

Valet pro Orange crush pre wash, megs/AG shampoo. Use a good drying towel.

Tardis for removing tar/glue etc

Bilberry wheel cleaner

Megs APC for arches door shuts, whatever

Megs degreaser for under bonnet

Chemical guys trim gel for tyres/trims/arch linings. AG Vynal & rubber for engine dressing

For polishing i just use SRP topped off with a couple of coats of EGP. I have a few waxes, P21's/Petes 53 for the summer, Colinites 474 for the winter. Done.

You don't need to waste money on all this fazazzle stuff imo.

It "might" be. By polishing cloth you mean a microfiber type one??

I either use my hands or a foam pad. f**k using hands for collie though!

Exactly...In my opinion the list I put together for him is decent stuff that isn't ridiculously expensive. I dread to think how much money's worth of stuff is in my shed..a good 1K +

But I do buy stuff to try and then never use though.

Isnt the dodo spin doctor a rotary? If so ad defo research more before attacking your paint with it. You could do some serious damage if you dont.

A good start is DaveKG's rotary guide on DW

if you are struggling with a solid wax try this

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/collinite-no-845-insulator-wax/prod_208.html

i absolutely love the stuff. easy to apply. the only thing is you need to shake the bottle before using it. its like a paste at first. and when i say shake it. i mean properly shake it hard. at first because there isnt any room in the bottle to shake it will take ages before it turns to a "liquid" again. pretty sure magpie V6 has done a "review" on it in one of her threads.

:( You're a newbie into detailing though. Some of the other advice in here just isn't helpful dude.

Surely Chem Guys, Menz, AutoSmart, Valet Pro etc are all brands?

I must have missed your point fella, but IMO you buy the product for the benefits, not the label (which I think is saying what you've said ;)).

I want good stuff I want my car to shine! I want my wax to last up to 3/4 weeks or less I have most weekends free to clean. I know it wnt be done right the first time but iv gotta start some where!! Iv never used clay before and way order do I do stuff with using clay!??

Its true tho!...I've tried various products on RB, it's the most unrewarding colour to work with ever.

Buy bulk would be my only bit of advice for any new detailed.

So:

G101 - 5l
Megs - Superdegreaser - 5l
Megs - Wheel Brightener - 5l
Megs - Hyper wash.
Zymol/SW Sponge/Brush
----------------------------------
£90ish

Unless you've got DA or Rotary, don't even bother with compound polishes. A cleaner polish like AG SRP or SW Cleaner fluid then a wax like CG 50:50 will be fine. Total cost about £45-50

Done.

I would want a wax to last a little longer than that, but if not, I would suggest Natty's Blue, especially on an RB.

lol Racing Blue! - May as well stick to Halfords own products.

I disagree, Becca aka Needster's had a real glint to it when it left. Decent minor correction, put down some good work and then topped with a basic wax (in this case DODO Blue Velvet).

another good one there Ali!!

Agreed on the bulk. G101 and the Megs lot are useful enough.

We'll agree to disagree on that one son. I'd rather polish your face that another RB. Granted any car will give more clarity post polishing but it doesn't merit the expensive products imo!

JD wat would you say I get! Every think I'd need to make my car a sexy looking clean car!! Then I can actully buy stuff!! If it was ur car and you only had 200 quid!! Iv got a dodo juice spin doctor need pads but extra is put aside for this

£200? And excluding pads/machine?

OK;

Lambswool mitt

Two buckets
DODO BtbM
Brush set
Drying towels x2

Wheel brush
Wheel cleaner (if they are really that bad)

APC
Degreaser
Tardis
IronX
Clay
Lube

Polish for machine
Finishing polish by machine

IPA
Wax (based on your comments for a wax that you can top up regularly)

Now that little lot is before you start looking into things like top end waxes, MFs, applicators etc etc etc. Bets on it being over £300 rather than two?

That doesn't include a pressure washer, hose, snow foam + lance. Or interior products. Or glass products. Or trim products. Or wheel protectants.

LOL, just realised how much I've spent on detailing products. FML.

I'd never write down what i'd spent! The missus thinks my pot of Glasur cost £30.

I Revert th OP back to this....My reasons being Iron cut etc are waayyy overboard for what you would want.

Attempted to put down my list of things all from I4detailing for you. Not there are lots of products I would get otherwise but for ease of ordering this will give a good starting base.

Wash mitt

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Sonus_Genuine_Wool_Car_Wash_Mitt_1.html

Shampoo

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Dodo_Juice_Born_To_be_Mild_Shampoo_1.html

Clay

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/I4D_Uber_Lime_Clay_Bar_1.html

Degreaser / All Purpose Cleaner

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Meguiars_All_Purpose_Cleaner_3.html

Wheel cleaner (may get away with APC and shampoo)

As above or http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Bilbery_Safe_Wheel_Cleaner_2.html

Wheel brush / Mitt

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Vikan_Multi_Brush_2.html

Drying towel

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/I4D_Uber_Premium_Drying_Towel_1.html

and

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/I4D_Detailing_Product_Applictor_Pad_1.html

Polish (by hand I assume)

By hand this..http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Autoglym_Super_Resin_Polish_1.html

Wax / Sealant

Choose one of these for now..

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Dodo_Juice_Wax_Sample_kits_1.html

Trim restorer / protector

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Autoglym_Vinyl_and_Rubber_Care_1.html

Tyre dressing

(buy some scouring sponges from tesco and cut them up to apply using the foam side not the hard side!)
http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Meguiars_Gold_Class_Endurance_Tire_Gel_1.html

Wheel sealant (can be same as your chosen wax / sealant if good durability)

Wouldnt bother at the minute as nothing on i4 is that good..either poorboys wheel sealent or Planet Polish Wheel Seal And Shine.

Glass polish / cleaner

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/3M_Glass_Cleaner_1.html

Then some bottles and spray heads for things....At least 3 bottles and then ONE foaming sprayer, 2 Chemical Resistant ones.

Foaming sprayer

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/acatalog/Foamer_Spray_Head_1.html

Whats the difference between de-fallout and clay? I thought thats what a clay was for? I would ask my detailer but he doesn't speak English and only has a hose and sponge.

Clay will only remove on the surface contaminants. Fall out remover goes deeper and lets the paint "breathe".

You learn something new every day. Maybe I should spray a little fall out remover on the Mrs next time I gag her.

I didn't realise there was so much involved. I've done a little clay, polish wax before in my life but that all seems a little OTT.

I was amazed when I read a write-up that included a detail where an iron-removing chemical was used (I forget the name). Iron particles streaming off the car!
