computer help urgent (guru's only really)

Car  Focus ST-2
Just Finished buliding a new system and due to purchasing new harddrives i thought i would get a caddy and use my old harddrive as a external one.

However i left everything installed on it and never took anything off. My old windows profile and folder was password protected. All my Uni stuff is in this folder(bugger) is there anyway to unlock this?. Tried just putting it back in the system and booting up windows with it but it won'twork. Any ideas guys?

Cant you put it back in the one it come from? else you need to use a recovery program.

Not if he's changed the motherboard or another base component. XP freaks; recently change a lot in my system too.

What message is it giving you when you try to access the folder the files are in?

put it back into your old one, then insert xp disc and run a windows repairs on it. that will allow you to boot it. then move all the data off it, format it and put the data back on. done

just put it into the new pc and a secondary drive and change the permissions of the folders, adding your new username or everyone to the folders should allow you to access the data, if not then you will have to take ownership of the folder first.
