Connecting aftermarket speakers?

  MK3 Sport Tourer TCE
Bought a pair of Pioneer co-axials for my rear doors.

Have taken the standard Renault speakers out to find that the connections are completely different [see pics]

What do I need to do to use the Pioneers in my Clio? And are all aftermarket speakers like this?

I was hoping it would be a simple case of removing one and replacing it with the new one. But things are never that simple are they? :(

you need an adaptor/splitter. Halfords sell them relatively cheap, just look for the ones listed for your car/year.

I'm a fukcwit when it comes to electonics so bear with me.

If I cut the plug off can it be reconnected? I'll be selling the car in a year so I'll be putting the original speakers back in.

And if I do cut the plug off, how and where do I connect the wires? :S

Right, generally you can cut the plug, then place Spades on the ends of the wire to be able to use them with the pioneers. But the spades can also work on the orignal speakers too.

So dont worry, remember the minus should have a line along with the wire so you can see its the negative one(small terminal on the speaker).

i'd say getting to the speakers is harder than connecting them, basically as long as one wire is touching each of the sticky out bits on your new speakers it will work fine.

Neither of the wires has a line. One is pink and the other is yellow. I'm pretty sure the pink is the positive.

I tried Halfords in Coventry today and unsuprisingly they were completely unhelpful. The part they thought I needed they didn't have in stock.

I bet if I'd bought the speakers from them and wanted to pay someone £40 to fit them then the required parts would magically reappear.

Anyway, are 'spades' the metal connectors that fit on the end of the speaker cabling? Do they just slide on and stay put?

I've tried sliding the wires out of the plug but they won't shift.

I'm sure it's all very easy but I just want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I cut the plug off ;)

Any more help would be greatly appreciated. I can't be the only one who knows sweet FA about wiring a speaker!

cut the plug off, strip the plastic cover for the first 5mm or so off the wire then place the terminal on the wire, then crimp it,jobs a good'n,repeat for each terminal

im no expert but..

yes the metal spades are sortof universal connectors. you can get a pack of different sizes from halfords.

youd need to cut the wire from the plug and slice off the rubber insulation to reveal the bare copper wire.

you thread the wire through the spade connectors and clamp them shut.

chop plug, solder the correct wires to the correct terminals. best way.

Right if you look down the socket of the oem speaker then you will see one of the terminals is marked with a "+" which wire connects to that spade is the positive. iirc its the wire nearest the clip.

If you need any real world help drop me a pm i'm only up the road in sunny nuneaton.

I've added a short length of wire with spades on so it can be removed and the original speaker reconnected when I sell the car.

Cheers, I may be in touch sometime if I get confused!

Have you kept the plug on and connected the length of wire to it, or cut the plug off and added the length of wire to the original wiring?

Kept the original plug and added a length of wire about 3 inches back from the plug. Stripped back and soldered. Therefore when I take the car back to standard I just cut the extra wire and reattach the oem speakers.
