worst scenario get air in when refilling and overheats or headgasket, so how do u refil without getting any air in at all after draining the system obv bless nipples? its 172 ph2?

Theres a bleed screw on the thermostat housing. Fill the header tank, open bleed screw till coolant pisses out. Run car till the fan kicks in. Wait a bit to cool then rebleed. Done.

Thats not right?

Why? What else is there to do? You can squeeze the hoses to help get the air out but ive not found it necessary on clios.

I didn't put top up the header tank as the level drops but I thought that was pretty obvious!

You open the bleed screw, then start filling the header tank till it pisses out the bleed screw, do the bleed screw up.

Fill header tank, then keep the car at 3kRPM for 10 mins and keep filling up the header tank as required.

Hows that any different :rasp:

Apart from you opening the bleed screw before putting the coolant in (not that it makes any difference) and giving it some revs to heat up quicker its the same? (oh, and an extra bleed after the thermostat has opened, not that there is usually any air in it at that point anyway.)

arrr guys lol just simply the two of ure opinions would be great i thougth if u leave it running and keep topping it up there ment to have the cap on and build up pressure but the pump will suck it down so im wrong there cheerS?

There not pressurised systems (well nothing happens if you undue the cap) If you have drained the system by removing the lower rad hose, it takes roughly 5 litres to fill back up. I also don't think it will drain properly unless you undue the bleed screw.

just take off lower rad pipe herd about 30 sec to drain, if i have hose run it through with water for bit get gunk out, then do up rad hose and just fill up till resovoir is mid way? then turn on engine with heater on and top up if goes down and also open bleed nipple where again ? untill its runs constant then do up yeah ? sure id know if air was in system would overheat quick proberly hard to do aswell?

Ok quick step guide, well this is how I did it.
Lid off coolant.
Take clip of bottom radiator hose, let run out.
Undue bleed screw, more coolant will then come out of radiator hose.
Flush out with water.
Put hose back on.
Fill up with coolant till it comes out of the bleed screw as a steady stream, do that up, fill coolant to max line.
Start engine, keep it at 3000rpm to get the thermostat to open, usually 10 mins.
When the thermostat opens the coolant will drop super fast, just keep topping it up.
For some reason though it always suddenly fills the coolant bottle back up and bubbles over, you'll see lol.
