Coolant!

Has anyone done a coolant change guide on the forum? Is it just a case of draining and changing or doe you have to take the air con into account?

I THINK YOU WILL FIND THIS IS THE PROCESS:

1. Remove expansion bottle cap.

2. Remove bottom radiator hose and allow coolant to drain.

3. This is a good time to flush system using hose pipe.

4. Re-fit bottom hose.

5. Remove bleed plug from thermostat housing.

6. Fill up with fresh coolant until it appears from blead hole in thermostat housing, then replace bleed plug.

7. Top up expansion bottle with coolant to correct level.

8. Check all fittings are back in place and tightened.

9. Run engine to operating temp., this will allow thermostat to open and coolant to circulate. Re-check level and top up if required.

Tip: good time to replace crappy renault hose clips and fit nice shiney stainless ones from http://www.venairsport.co.uk/index.php?cPath=47

Hope this gives you some idea.

Anyone who thinks I have missed something please feel free to add to this.

Capacity of system is 7 litres. Advisable to use all year round coolant with 50/50 mix with water. If you plan on keeping it till it dies, it maybe worth putting long life stuff in, 5 year life. 5 litres from Halfrauds id £15.99.
Gonna do mine anytime now with samw stuff.

Type D coolant is recommended. I got mine from GSF for £12 for 4 lires.

Unless you have the right tool getting the bottom hose back on is a pig!
