Core i7 at OCUK

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Already got one. Thanks for heads up! ;)

Already broke it though. Runs too hot when you clock the b****cks off it.

Yeah new tech. I'm waiting on more benchmarks before deciding whether or not to plan a build, as all I'm interersted in is games, and my current setup is pretty good :)

David, 'true' quad core means it's 4 cores on the same die. Current Intel quads are 2x dual core, so 2 dual core dies. i7 is 4 cores on one die.

I'd be tempted, but in terms of good PC games, there really aren't any/many. I've got Crysis & Crysis Warhead, that's all that cuts it IMHO.

And they're not limited by CPU - I've proven same framerate in both games with 2.6GHz standard clock on i7 and again at 3.6GHz. However swapping the two 4850 (Crossfire-X) for a single 4870X2 proves to be a massive improvement, again at 2.6GHz.

No matter how fast they make these CPUs, gamers are wasting their money. Your GPU is holding you back - any Core2 at 2GHz is more than ample for Crysis. Memory can be a limitation, but the minimum I can test with is 6GB - sorry!

On another point, what did you make of Crysis - Warhead? I found it much easier than the original, but for some reason the graphics are more demanding which is unusual as it's supposed to be based on the same engine IIRC? I ended up overheating a liquid cooled 8800GTX playing it (my main gaming rig, I'm poor!)

I'm still playing it at the moment, but to be honest you've taken the words out of my mouth, totally agree with everything you've said.

"I found it much easier than the original, but for some reason the graphics are more demanding"

Its almost as if you can ignore some enemies and just run through the levels, its not quite that bad but its certainly easier than Crysis.

Glad someone else noticed that! I mean, part way through the original when you're trying to get into the base on the island, it's properly challenging - there was nothing even close to that!

I <3 the PAX cannon at the end though. Fookin BOOM!

its the nehalem xeons you want... ;)

You've got Dunnington to wait for first I'm afraid, I expect On-Die Memory Controllers for Server architecture to be made available to people towards the middle of next year... I certainly wouldn't hold out for one before Christmas!

So how did you obtain an i7 and board?

I'm not going to get involved in a discussion about games, because it'll turn into console wars.

had dunningtons for about 4 months or so now, there v good, specially on virtulisation

dunningtons were offically released a couple of weeks back...

as for how obtained all the stuff, well, working for intel helps ;) specially if you work in there sever platforms group and create the demos for the press etc etc..!

Well I kinda gathered that, which was why I asked ;)

You say you fried it overclocking? Was this anything to do with using more than 1.65v on the RAM, and grilling the IMC? I've read a lot about this potential issue when using performance OCd RAM in the X58.
