Cracked Windscreen!

I noticed the other day that my windscreen has been hit by something and has therefore cracked. Before I ring my insurance company to arrange a replacement I just need to know a few things so they order the right one.

I know I need one with a green tint (please correct me if I'm wrong!) and the anti reflective coating, but will I need to get a new gel pack for the auto wipers as I have read on here that I will need a new one, and that I won't need a new one. Should the black plastic surround be replaced or do they use the one that is currently on the car? Also, I have read on here about security markings on the windscreen? Should my car have these markings, and if so where would they be situated so I can check?

Thanks in advance.

Mine got cracked earlier in the month when I was going down the M1. Called my insurance (admiral) they were very helpful and offered a choice of who would replace it. I chose RAC, they asked does the car have auto wipers and does it have heat reflective screen. They were also very flexible to what time they could come and do it. They replace it like for like but you dont get any security markings, but its not such a big deal on the front. I just had to pay £70 excess.

i just went straight to RAC because thats who Diamond use (took my policy documents along with). the one they gave me looks exactly the same except for having an RAC Windscreens logo in the bottom corner instead of Renault. It has all the right airbag symbols which i think is all that really matters?! I hope so anyway!!

Yeah i'm not sure if you do or not but some clio owners have the windscreens with the built in rain and light sensors.

Anyone here with experience in getting one of those replaced, and the costs involved?

I dont recommend the RAC to do it! My insurance company sent them to fit mine and i had to have them out 4 times and fit 3 new screens before i was happy with it! :S

First screen-They fitted the wrong color screen, cracked it, and broke the clips on the scuttle panel.

Second screen- Didnt fit the screen or rubber surrounds properly allowing the wind to get under them, causing a very loud whislting sound over 60mph and the rubbers to fly off down the motorway!

Third screen- was finally fitted correctly (and touch wood) had no problems with it since. ;)

Im sure other people have had better experience's with them, but just be sure to check it all over if they do fit it for you! :)

Thanks for the info. My insurance company uses Autoglass so I doubt I'll get the option to choose a different company. I'll have to give them a ring before it gets any worse!
