The reason you put new tyres on the back is because if you hit standing water the front will understeer when it aquaplanes instead of the whole car going around in a piroutte.
Saying that, I just rotate tyres and replace the lot in one go anyway.
I always replace my tyres before they get anywhere near the limit anyway. Ain't worth getting close to the 1.6mm limit and having a 3 pointer slapped my way
However some people drive round with cords showing and kids in the car.
