Crancking but no fuel coming...

  Renault Clio 1,6 16V
It's a 1,6 16V sport ph1 ..it's been standing for a while(clutch kit problem) .. Now I recently got enough money and time to bring it back on the road... I fitted the clutch kit and subframe was hectic to fit back...but managed.. Only to find out the steering column was left out inside engine bay aaaaarg!! Started all over again..managed it...placed my new battery... Cranked...nothing! Turned off key and turned to on...no hissing sound...only clicking sounds...dashboard lights flashing in a blinking like manner while cranking... Switched headlights.. It goes on..by to my surprise it doesn't want to go on sometime...cranking seems like slow an dragging..added pwr through jumpers..now cranking fast but not firing...removed rear seat...checked all is well.... Sometimes I put my feet on clutch cranking whilst on gear and let it go a bit to give a little shacking...lights on dash became normal...headlights also. But not firing..

Yes I did just now... +ve from battery to wires on top of fuel pump... First one sparked... Second one made the fuel pump hiss..

Ok, so the fuel pump does work, but it does not work when turning the key?

Does the car have an immobiliser?
Do you have another key you could try?

  Renault Clio 1,6 16V
Yes...but not with the key...I have tried the spare key also but nothing... Cranking not kicking to life..when I was fixing the clutch kit..I dd remove the computer box..and placed back like the day tomorrow.. But the immobilizer light blinks normal...when placing the key and turn it on..its solid and disappear.. Crank! Nothing..... Checked the earth behind the passenger headlight it's intact.. I think maybe it's my positive wires from battery to Fuse...will get Q20 to give it a clean up...

Does it have a fuel cut off switch (red button in the bay) that might have tripped. Is the crank sensor loom on the top of the gearbox alright ?

It has Red button.. ( tried to reset it...removed the pins and plugged it back) hw can you bypass that? But the crank sensor sends pulses to the computer box when cranking... ( fuel pump responds when turning On) before cranking... Hw does that work? Pump not making hissing sound really confuses me...
What about two wires if switched either way around on the crank sensor for they are soldered directly? do that make a change?

Can you confirm that this Clio 2, Ph1, and not a Mk1 Clio?

Have you checked over the engine bay fuses ? I recall when my fuel pump wouldn’t prime it had blew one of the smaller amp fuses which was for the pump.

Also regarding the fuel cut off, if it’s popped it will just click back down when pressed, if not it hasn’t tripped.

They seem alryt..I dd remove one..it's a 60 ryt? Second one from my right hand..

Whilst on that..the first fuse overheated.. Causing the fuse housing on the first difficult to plug out..but managed...I think it's the Speed controller Fan fuse.. Is it supposed to be a 30??? Sorry for asking too much

  Renault Clio 1,6 16V
Yes Steve...dd it while the fuel lines were unplugged...fuel came out forcefully...pump hissing

Thanks guys it started...fired first time..idling perfect.. It was a loose earth black wire with"O" ring on top of the gearbox... But now here comes the problem.. NEED TO REMOVE GEARBOX AGAIN! There is noise coming from the gearbox.. Not yet driven it.or road tested it...the noise sound is quite when I press down the clutch pedal..Clutch kit is all new...

Congratulations on fixing the problem :)

If there is a faint noise that goes away when the clutch pedal is pushed down, it might be the clutch release bearing (if I remember correctly).

Yeah noise is probably clutch release bearing. Doddle to drop the boxes out on these though. Had it been a MK3, it would be set alight first.
