crank shaft sensor?

  Combo
so after a great weekend of driving and cleaning my clio sunday night came where i had to drive back to uni and the b*****d wouldnt start.

it would just crank over and over again without firing to life.

it had done this once before where i left it for about half an hour then tried again and it started. so i left it for about half an hour but nothing. i check the battery (jump start) and nothing, looked online and said stuff about the imoboliser (sp) but that was all ok and finally look for the fuel cut off switch which was said that it was on the off side under the bonnet, but i couldnt find it  .

so after driving back to uni (in my old mans vitara jlx - not a comfy ride btw) i phoned up renault and they said they think it's the crank shaft sensor! so alas i had it towed to renault this evening for them to take my money.

have any of you ever had this problem and do you know how much its going to cost. thanks in advance!:D

Crank Sensors are cheap enough - Dont have my receipt to hand, its the labour (1 hour) only takes about 35-40 mins though.

The might feel the need to run a clip test as well, more ways to earn £££

see my thread matey, did the starter cut itself out as in you try and start it but its as if its got a flat battery?

I'm going round some local part places tommorow to see if I can pick one up.

no as i held the key round it would still try and start and i held it for quite a while and i only stopped as i got worried about knackering the battery.

yep they all light up fine, lets hope renault find the problem quick, i will let you know what they say

If it wont crank it does sounds like a tdc issue but its renault it could be many things electrical. ;) lol let me know how you get on :)

right so i got a call from renault today saying my car was ready so i went to pick it up not knowing what to expect but all they said was it needed a new battery, WTF? i dont understand why it wouldnt work when we tried to jump start it. glad it was nothing more though, just very annoying!

the most impirtant thing is... Is it okay now lol?

If it was cranking over then i doubt it was the battery though :S

What did you pay?

yeah thats what i thought, but it starts fine now but im still a little warey. it was only a new battery but at renault prices hmmmm. i have seen the bill yet but i will let you know when i do

I've just ordered a crank angle sensor from Renault today, my car was doing the exact same thing and a man from FAM told me this would be the cheapest option.

The part itself was only £19 and he said it's easy to fit yourself as it's only two screws and its in.

thats what i thought, espically with the jump start attempt aswell but its running fine now and has been for a couple of weeks
