filled my car up the other night at a texaco garage and now im strugaling to do 24 mpg !! normally i average 32-34 but this is taking the piss could it be down to the petrol
I belive that petrol bought from certain supermarkets and cut price petrol station is of a lower quality and affects ur fuel consumption. I used to fill my escort up at the cheapest petrol station around but it make my engine ping an fuel economy was affected but not as much as u seem to be suffering.
I dont have have a mpg computer on my clio and couldnt be bothered to calculate it manually but I always felt my car seemed to last longer on a tank when I filled up from ASDA. Though I thought I might have been imagining it.
Theres no way a petrol station would delibrately sell dodgy fuel. Imagine the libility cases! Plus your car does have a filter in the fuel line so even if there was any cack (which is more likely to have come from outside when you open the petrol flap etc) it cannot go through to the engine.
Besides Im not convinced about the reliability of the MPG calculator on clios. Mine says a steady 31 but this week my girfreind has driven the car to work and back all week and we havent filled up since the weekend. Got be nearer 40 mpg I rekon.
i happened to me once, i did 24 miles on a fiver!!! WTF??????????? Ended up breaking down on a BUSY crossroads...... made my mate get out and push like a b!tch!
i can understand what ya saying dogmaul - i must admit that different petrol stations i go to seem to have different outcome on my fuel level gauge. I can put £30.00 in at 1 garage & then at another it seems more & vice versa. I wonder if the crafty buggars are riggin the pumps ??
the fuel computer on my dci seems acurate enough as its within 1.5% of how much fuel has been put in the tank over the past 14000 miles
im quite suprised at the fuel economy of people in there 1.2s i only get 52mpg out of mine and i paid £1000 extra for the diesel economy. So either i drive faster than most 1.2 drivers or the diesel isnt such an economical car as people make out
Captain_clio, you must give it some serious stick. The worst I ever got was 37mpg but usually 41. I get around 30-32mpg out of the 172, have managed 34.5 as a record.
I only get 38mpg out of my 1.2 16v and I never ever take it above 4k RPM and usually keep it below 3.5k RPM My fuel consumption went downhill since Renault performed an ECU update to cure my problem with the engine cutting out. I wish Id have got the diesel now!!! My girlfriends brother who has the 1.5 DCI 65BHp clio billabong gets 55MPG average!!!
So much for Renaults claim of 46mpg combined fuel consumption!!! I might have to have a word with my dealer about this on Friday when the car goes in to get the clutch judder looked at!
