Crap trade in price!

Not long back from looking at cars....planning on trading the Cup in.

Anyway, the car is a 03 plate Mondial Blue Cup with 13k on the clock, bog standard and immaculate.

The car was £13k 1 year ago, although I appreciate that they could be gotten cheaper.

So, based on a Honda Civic Type R, I was offered £8k, so I thanked the guy for his time and left!

I appreciate that used prices are low, but there is no way Im letting him have it for that so he can make a profit on it.

Id rather sell it privately for a fiver more than let them get it!

Anyway, it seems I dont know much about it, cos he told me that it should have been serviced at 9k miles and every subsequent 9k miles.

He also told me that there are 2 models of 172 Cup.... one WITH the luxuries, and one without. Hmmmm, methinks hes a bit mixed up.

He obviously doesnt know much about the cars, so I left him to his Accords and Preludes! :D

Trade in prices are unbelivable when I though about what there were offering for my car made me think what you could buy for the money and it wasnt much.

Im suprised they didnt know what a cup was though and how they could get mixed up.

It needs to be serviced every 12k by the way. No idea what theywere on about 9k servicing sound like a way to knock the value of your car down.

the book price for a trade in on you cup should be £8600, did you tell him want you want for it ??, its all a bit of a game this car selling/buying you know.

was u after a type r, as i was thinking of one

Yeah, I know, my Cup was serviced at 12k so he was obviously looking to knock me down a bit.

But even still, a service only costs £150-£180 so there aint much knocking down to be done.

I told him what is owed on it, and that I dodnt expect to be "upside down". I was!

There was the option of air con on later Cups IIRC and a few came in silver

I know, whats your point?
The dealer was going on about 2 distinctly different Cup models, not merely a Cup with 1 extra bit of kit.
He was confusing the 172 and the Cup but didnt really know what he was talking about.

An audi dealer offered me 12k for my 182 with 10k on the clock, BUT what he didnt tell me (but what I knew) is that the car I was buying was overpriced by about 2k.

An honest salesman would have said something like "we can hide your negative equity by...."

Honda are reknowned for their crap trade in prices, id sell privately if you really have your heart set on a CTR.
Easier said than done though mate.

Plus, their finance is CRAP!

6% flat rate, non negotiable.

Im paying 3.5% on my Cup and I told him Id want that matched, and he told me to go and get my own finance and come back to him to buy his car! LOL

Yeah, right!

at the end of the day the trade in price they offer you would have to be proportional to the discount that they might give u.

there are loads of other options open to you to be honest i had exactly the same problem with honda and their ridiculous finance so i spoke to my bank manager of all people and he asked me if id ever considered PCP (not angel dust) as an option. which effectively you own a car from new and pay over 2 or 3 years, if you decide to keep it then fair enough you pay the lump sum at the end (usually between 20-30% of original value) if you dont want it you hand it back, if it is worth more to the trade than they promised you, you get back the difference, if its worth less and you havent exceeded estimated mileage etc then you dont lose out, interest rates are very low as well, i think flat rate is about 2.6% or about 6.9 - 7.9% APR. ive bought my last two cars this way and it really does make sense, i put down 40% deposit on the 182 and am paying £113 a month over two years, if i keep it, i owe 3,400 if i dont want it i can either sell private and settle that way or just hand it back ...

It seems a bit odd buying a car this way at first but it costs less, you have guaranteed trade in and the payments are so low that it means you can save for the car you really want to own in a couple of years. I bought my CTR over two years, i only put 10% down on it so paid 390 a month but i came out laughing, after two years i owed 5,300 to won the car... id paid a lower rate and less monthly payment than someone else who would have bought the car outright and i sold it (admittedly 1500 below book) for £10,900 making a nice profit of 5,600 which was used to fund the 182. i realise that the 182 wont hold its value as well but for 113 a month and a car that i can hand back after 2 yrs, also meaning i can save the other 200 a month it would cost to buy outright for my next motor ... i cant grumble

im a lloydstsb customer and they sell cars (where im getting the 182 from) go onto their website http://www.lloydstsb.co.ukwww.lloydstsb.co.uk and click buying a car link ... check out the price and monthly payments !!! oh and they beat hondas own delivery time by 4 weeks as they sell more of their cars than the dealership ... worth a look

maffyoo thats exellent info m8.

il check it out.

what happens if you exceed estimated milege.. i could see 10k a year but its more likely 12.5-13k id rather not pay for 15k a year when i know i dont do that.

thanks for your advise
