Cruise control virgin

...... until last night.

Set speed. Press + to go faster. Press - to slow down. Press R to resume. Hehe! Weird sh*t placing both feet on the floor mat and doing 75mph on the M66....

See, it doesnt take much to impress those people with small, fragile minds.... :D

Its amusing when you set it to maximum, come out of a slow roundabout and then press resume.

great when someone pulls out in front of you and you accidently hit the accelerator instead of the brake !!!!.....you dont use it for a very long while after that !!........lol

so if you press resume after coming out of a roundabout what do you do? Does it just rev up and you just have to change the gears? does it stop reving when you put your foot on the clutch? Cruise in an automatic would be funny. Set it to max and come out of a roudnabout and then the car would all buy itself get to max speed.

had cruise in a my last couple of cars now, and i couldnt live without it.

until today when i was doing a nice steady 30 in a 30 zone on my way to work, was in 3rd gear and then out of nowhere computer display on dash displayed "set 55" and off it went!!!

wtf, good job there was nobody infront of me, prob gained bout 10-15 mph before i managed to switch it off!

imagine if there was a copper behind me, reckon id get away with say it was the va va voom?

if you change gear it screws it up, It resumes the speed that you had set if youre in the gear you were in when you set it... Its good to give your foot a wee rest but I dont really use it much, good for speed cameras too! cause the speed on the cruise control is more accurate than your speedo.

lmao

doesnt cruise control kill the mpg though?

I reckon its not very fuel efficient cause it will try to maintain your speed up hill etc without a gear change.

I tried the resume button (bearing it mind it was set to 75mph) just as I set off from a set of lights - well, you have to test these things, dont you?

I was surprised that it picked up speed in a moderate and controlled manner - not stupid amounts of acceleration or anything. Pretty good, I thought.

Interesting point about the possible downturn in MPGs - I had never thought of that....

MPG seems fine for me and I use it once a week all the way from Aberdeen to Newcastle on friday evening then back on the sunday evening to Aberdeen.

Im still a virgin when it comes to that... however, living in London means I never seem to drive anywhere where the speed remains constant...

Im sure its fine for motorway cause theyre gonna be pretty flat and straight, I sometimes use it on the A9 between Thurso and Perth, not at all flat and straight!

But only when my foot needs a rest!

had a long long mway drive in my mates automatic merc CLK 500 5 litre v8 , light the blue touch paper etc...

i managed a 100 mile stint by just altering the stalk control... very relaxing and saves tired feet!!

press the plus and minus buttons on the steering wheel (left hand side)

feels like youre playing a computer game or something, fly by wire push button to go faster or slower, dont use your brakes... lol

Shame the button to switch it on and off is so badly positioned, if youre in a hurry to turn it off, youre fooked!

I use the cruise quite often as my own personal policeman. Saves my license while I concentrate on the road, not a speedo needle :)

If theres plenty of traffic about I use the speed limiter instead. Prefer not to use that though as it feels strange.

Eh? You can cancel it from the wheel, or by pressing the clutch or brake pedals.

I keep one foot resting on the accelerator, and my other on the footrest just in case... thats how we drive on the motorway anyway.

Its great when theres no traffic, and youre pottering along...

Brakes are the best way to cancel, clutch isnt as instant for some reason.

its designed for using at high moterway speeds not round town at low speeds thats pretty dangerous using it in built up areas

as for the MPG i get 36mpg traveling from norfolk to cornwall on cruise at about 75-80 mph

If Im cruising on the motorway at 80 mph and I hit some traffic that is moving at, say 70, normally I would just lift the accelerator to adapt to the new speed (rather than use the brakes), but I imagine that if you knocked the speed down using the button on the steering wheel, the brake lights would come on? I imagine that would make a difference to fuel consumption? Not to mention causing everybody else to brake as well!

  fat 182

knock the sppeed down is just like letting you foot of the accelerator the brakes art part of the cruise control you still got to do thatyour self

do you know cruise control has be banned in belgem due to to many high speed crashes!

Rory, just press the 0 button to temporarily cancel cruise, then the R button to resume. This also applies to the speed limiter. No need to fiddle for any tucked away switch...you only need to flick the dash switch if you want to change from cruise to limiter.

i just tend to lay a brick on my accelatrator and then rest the old right foot..... not as posh us lot as you 182 ers :p

its quite amuzing pressing your brake with your left foot, give that a try
