Crunching In Reverse

When I put my motor in reverse, 9 times outta 10 its crunching.

The clutch also feels stiff at times, but far as i know this is common with Clios as it was doin the same with my diesel model

Is this an early sign sayin my clutch is on the way out?

Have you tried pressing that thing on the left of the footwell?

just put it into first gear before you go for reverse, they all do it

Make sure the car is stopped/stationary before selecting reverse gear. Dont think there is syncromesh in reverse.

Yeah, i make sure the car is statoinary, but it still crunches.

Ill give Bruns technique a go, and if it dont work.....well.......any other ideas?

Into first first (does that make sense?!) then just be veeeeeery gentle and slow as you ease it in...

(Erm, does this sound pornographic to anyone else?! )

Yeah i just thought as 1st and reverse are near eachother, it might just slip in easier?

Guess it cant do any harm for giving it a go.

i messed about with my linkage abit and manged to get it to go in easier, now it only crunches 50% of the time. lol

With the Renault gear box. They recommend that you depress the clutch for 3-5 seconds before you select reverse !! This is a common thing on phase 1 and 2 Clios.

Try it and you should find that it corrects all that gear crunching !!

I use this method and yes its a pain, but it sorts out the problem !!
