CTR engine in a clio

Would a civic type R engine fit into a mk2 ph1 clio? if so what kinda costs would be involved to do such a thing? Just one of my many ideas for the future

tut tut how could you think of such a thing !! :-|

There would be no benafit what so ever for doing a CTR transplant. You might as well just go and drop in a 172 engine which is a straight fit and mod that up for all the extra it would cost ya to do the Honda idea !!

There just as quick as each other anyway !!

If you want to do a mad engine convo either shove in a 20V 1.8 turbo Vag lump or have a go at a Megane turbo transplant

i thought the ctr engine because in the lighter clio I presumed (possibly wrongly) it would be quicker than a 172/182 engine. if i stuck with renault it would be the megane 225 engine!

Type R engined clio of any shape would piss on a 172/182 from a great height plus it's miles more tuneable than the f4r.

I asked BenR about this ..... not easily done.

thats a shame, did think there might be problems with the dash and gear box, ohwell, will probably look at shoe horning in a 225 lump.

Why would it piss on it from a great height?

Similar torque at lower rpm for the f4r. 20bhp more granted but all top end.

By the time you had put the type R engine in you could probably have turbo'd the f4r anyway for a similar cost if not less by the sounds of it.

I think you answered your own question there 197 bhp compared to maybe 170/175bhp....I never said it would be cost effective though.

even though i put the question forward, i'm now starting to agree with j3ned, think the 225 lump is going to be a better option. I'm just waiting to see what kinda insurance quote i'm gonna get :S j3ned who is the clio TT insured with? and anyone got any idea on cost of putting a 225 lump in the a clio?

CTR engine Clio could be good if it was done properly. Imagine that superb drivetrain but with the Clio chassis and steering :approve:

that was my thought exactly, hmmm... now a supercharged ctr engine, that could be interesting... lol

Back in the real world where things cost money.............lol

The CTR engine is better built but you'd be looking at at least 5k plus to drop it in and tbh it wont be that much quicker. Far easier and more cost affective to drop a 172 engine in a tune that to 200bhp.

Think there's a problem when it comes to plumbing in the gearbox with the 225 convo is there not ??

If youve got the cash i'd go Vag for the ultimate tune ability

Maybe he wants a challenge though?

Lets be honest, the best feature of the CTR is its engine and gearbox...the best feature of the Clio is its chassis. If the two were combined PROPERLY, I reckon you'd end up with a car of far more talent than a regular 200bhp Clio.

However, it would cost a fortune, and might not work well as a package. A big project for someone with the skills/balls/money.

The TT can haul ass - i saw a CTR turbo 330bhp supposedly struggle getting 13.7 quarters at the pod

yea, more down to the builder than the engine or car.........engine is phenomenal, but the chassis isnt something you want to drag, its practically useless at drag racing.

13.7 pfffffffffft
