Cup end of life

Anyone know when the current Cup will be phased out / replaced / superseded? I want to know how long ive got to save up, before i buy the current model.

cheers.

probably next year as thats when the new clio comes out, I rekon maybe later in 04 well see new cups and probably something to replace the 172 alltogether (200 sport maybe? turbo? yes please!)

Quote from renault........"The cup will be available as part of the current clio range for one year from launch......" The launch was back in July/August so not much longer to go. And no they wont keep it going - no motor company can afford to sell two diferent mocels of clio!

Company: Renault

Model: Megane

New model hatchbacks have been on sale alongside previous model Coupe & Cabriolet for some time now. This will continue until the new CC is available next year.

I dont understand what you mean. There are about 15 different versions of Clios on sale at the moment?

Plus, I bet the Cup costs less to make than the 172 (i maybe wrong about that - sjust a hunch)

Do you not mean that the margins will be bigger on cup than a 172. I have often thought that for £1500 difference the is a lot of expensive equipment missing which must have saved renault a significant amount of money.

I remeber Jeremy Townsend saying production of the cup ceases in October/ November.

And ull find that the old meganes are ones that are last of the production line - they dont make them anymore - they have to sell them so they reduce them accordingly! ANd I meant they are not gonna make to different shaped clios ie totally different - of course there is loads of models of clios but they are all the same just with different engines and interiors etc - dohhhhhhhhhh dohhhhhh dohhhhhhhhhh!

in the old days, when Alfa was even more stupid than it is now, they still made the old Bertone GTV for 18months after they started making the new Alfetta GTV. Same with their saloons - dont like the new one? Buy the old one instead. And they wondered why they never made any money.

Well, you learn something every day. I honestly thought 172s were £15500, sorry. Have I imagined that they once were £15.5k? Have they come down in price over the last year or so?

Currently...

172 - £14600
Cup - £13000

According to Renault as I checked!

Ok, so if you can now get a Cup with air-con as an option and there is now a choice of either blue or silver, what else is likely to be added in the next few months???

Is there likely to be any other additions to the Cup in the near future that I am better off waiting for?!

Options such as ABS would be nice.

Or is the air-con & silver all were ever gonna get?!

No thats it until it ends in November. Mondial or Iceberg, with or without climate control.
Oh well, at least I know now.

Theyve actually updated the http://www.renault.co.ukwww.renault.co.uk website and the Cup options are now there.

So... do I get blue or silver?!

i saw in Evo mag last week that the cup is outselling the 172 by so much, Renault is considering phasing out the 172 and keeping the cup going, will be including options such as ABS and air con also.

Unfortunately that aint gonna happen...

I reckon it would be better as that way you can build the car you really want.
