CUP Moding

What is the easiest way to gain more BHP in the CUP. I was informed that the 57i induction kit is probably still one of the best bets. Is this so any suggestions welcome. :)

Also I am taking into account fuel consumption.

The 57i is the worst bit of kit going m8 !! If you want an induction kit get something like a viper (sealed in carbon) keeps the hot air out !! Also a superchip is a good start aswell as a good SS exhaust like a Supersprint 70mm

Yeah, some kind of ECU upgrade (Rsport maybe?), de-cat, sealed induction kit (Hillpower, Viper). With all those you may see 10-15 bhp..... Do a search, theres plenty on here about this kind thing...

Dont bother with the R-sport one as it wont take advantage of any other mods.

Get a viper, exhaust and programmable chip to start with.

Do absolutely nothing. The cup is just fine as it is. Any small mods are a complete waste of money and will devalue your car. If you want to + need to + can afford spending serious cash, there are a number of mods you can consider ranging from suspension (probably the most important but you asked about power) to engine + brakes. Anything worth the effort will cost you upwards of £1500 and potentially way past £5k. So unless you can burn that sort of cash of mods, dont bother with cheap useless stuff. Youll just ruin what is already a great car, and youll regret it.

erm how is +12bhp from an exhaust and decat a waste of money ???

eibach springs aprox 150 sorts the suspension brakes are fine unless doing trackdays when they can fade badly then all you need is better pads

viper will see about 4 bhp without remap with remap a few more the good thing with these mods they dont devalue your car as they all come off!!!!

other good mods are remove the back seats and replace fronts with fixed buckets saves lots of weight and that Free bhp

even lighter wheels

quick shift reduces gear change times so speeds you up

new inlet manifold fairly cheap

cams

and head work

well, having done most of the stuff on your list, I cant argue with the fact it does increase the performance. the point Im making though is that for 99% of road use, the increase in performance from doing these mods is a waste of time, because you can hardly explore the limits of the standard car on the road. So for me at least there are two clear paths to follow with a cup. (1) Regular track use, in which case mods make senses but not your average road warrior mods (Track priority is suspension, brakes, then engine - not the usual order) . (2) if there is no track use involved, keep the car standard and save the money.

true i get where your coming from but as cup owners buy whats they claim is a striped out race car surely they will all be going on the track !! (ps pulling ya leg)

K+N or Viper induction kit is def out then!! Would a super chip not be an idea, also how would any mods affect the warranty.

Cheers guys

Why?!

The K&N wont gain you any power, but the Viper will...

I would recommend the Rsport ECU - better drivability and throttle response all round, and it will cope with other limited mods.

First thing Id do is decat - v. cheap mod. Then Rsport ECU.

B+M quickshift as well if you want a sharper gear change.

If youre going on track Id do the brakes first though - I managed to make them fade after a days academy training. Some kevlar pads should help.

Done 2 trackdays in a mk1 172 and one in my Cup, both cars on standard pads and they do surprisingly well for factory fitment...

Decat is deffo the best VFM mod. Its all down to you presonal choice really. If you dont care about the noise get a straight through zorst and a piggyback ECU, or cams and headwork for more serious gains.

Also a 4 2 1 manifold might be a good idea as thats apparently where renno have got some power for the 182.
