Cup pack - warning!

  Black-Gold 182
I just rang up my insurance to see how much extra it would cost if I added an induction kit to my car, and found out they had my car listed as a standard 182. When I pointed out that it had the additional Cup pack option, they said it's classed as a modification, and are charging me an extra £54 for the priveledge! I can' t argue it because technically I'm not covered if I had an accident and hadn't declared it!

Grrrr!!!!!

surely if it had the cup pack option when it was first registered the car is standard, the car hasn't been modified. correct? im sure this has been discussed before

  Trophy #267
depends on the insurers.
I had the same argument with direct line when i was looking at a meggy 225 and wanted cup packs, they were oblivious to it so wanted to charge me extra for it a s a mod

get back on to them and set them straight!

the car has not been "modified outside of the standard specification" because it was registered WITH the Cup Packs.

its a standard car, they cannot charge you extra

does a car cost most to insure if it has factory fitted aircon? or sunroof? or leather?

What a joke . As said it's standard not a modification . Some insurance companys don't have enough information about the different specs of cars .

actually fred yes it can do mini owners find this out alot with the different packs you will find if you dont notify them and they pay out you only get the cash for a standard 182 not 182 with cup packs

Yup, that's what I thought, which is why I'm forking out the extra!

Grrrr!!!

well my mothers Audi A4 1.8 Tsport quattro (190bhp) is insured as that

they didn't ask what CD player is has, what interior, sun roof, electric seats etc

they may think it has a cloth interior and a tape player, but hey they never asked!

Couple of people a while back had a similar problem, I provided them with the original proof of purchase for my car that showed that the cup packs were factory fitted and not a modification and the insurance company accepted that.

Right the car itself 182 Standard.

You have to declare any OPTIONAL EXTRAS:

...... in this case both Cup Packs (Cup Suspension + Cup Spoilers)

SAME applies to ANY car.

IF you add CD Changers, Alloys etc.... anythings thats an Optional Extra, even from Factory its an extra.

SO the insurer will have to pay extra to replace yours.

You MUST declare these optional extras otherwise it can void your policy.

Factory fitted or not. They ARE an OPTIONAL EXTRA from the manufacturer. So is not fitted as standard when you buy a 182 or any other car from a show room.

never heard that one before Has! so you buy an audi with EVERY optional extra and then have to sit on the phone for 5hours telling them about everything!

Yer its utter shite......

But i see where they are coming from.

I suppose they cover there asses. If you buy a Clio and add the £1500 Sat Nav Option, its gonna cost them £1500 extra on top if they have to replace your car after a crash for the same option.

Tesco do specifically ask you "do you have any modifications or factory optional extras fitted" when you take out insurance.

It also appears in about every Terms & Cons that i have found for most insurance companies.

Shame all insurance companies don't deal with it in this way then because if they did we would know where we stood.

My car is insured with cup packs as standard, they are not listed on my modifications so ...:S

Ps - NO NEED TO SHOUT I KNOW IM GETTING ON BUT IM NOT DEAF YET.

  Lionel Richie
ah, just checked, my mother uses Audi insurance, she just gave them her reg number and they knew instantly what options it has fitted to it

  Formally Clio 182
Uhh that's gay. My 182 has the cup pack too.

Don't remember Tesco asking me though, although I did do it online :(

if you do it online it assumes its just as teh standard spec sheet so no cup packs so in theory your insurance is null and void

Depends on the company as said, but I had to declare mine with privilige, they didnt charge me extra.

As said optional extras must be declared.

lol Maz i wasnt shouting.

Just pointing out the main things so people can scan over and see what ive highlighted in my point.

Yup Tesco Online assumes your car has no mods/factory options.

Some companies dont ask you everything. It is up to YOU at the end of the day to declare everything.

Be it points, mods, details of yourself etc....
Its a good way of insurance getting out of paying by small little things.

For anyone reading this i shall lay out a easy to follow example:

Car: Renault Clio 182

Cost: £10,000 from new

Extras Added at purchase time:

Sat Nav - £1500
Cup Suspension - £250
Cup Spoiler - £250
Recaros - £1000

(All made up figures)

Total Cost: £13,000

You insure the car as a Renault Clio 182 with Insurance company X.
They assume your car cost you £10,000 only.

So after, your car gets stolen. Insurance Company X now offer you only £10,000 for a new 182.

If you have not told them about the factory options then this can even invalidate your policy. In which case they will probably pay £0.

If they increase your premium when you tell them you had all the above Factory Options then that is because there adding a cost to your premium for having the option they may have to possibly pay out if they replace the vehicle.

This is because the cost of the vehicle has risen from £10,000 to £13,000.
And not because they are just charging a random amount.

I know Has, im only messing :p

I really don't see how my insurance company for example would have a leg to stand on if I crashed and they said my insurnace was void because the car had cup packs (touch wood that I don't) because I told them when I called for a quote and they keep all this info recorded.

Surely there should be standards that companies have to work to, to ensure this is the same for all companies to protect their customers ?

  LY V6 with Recaros
I had this problem with Elephant. I argued and argued but they would not see my point! I gave up in the end as I was getting no where and had to pay an extra £50. I'll try what Maz did if I ever have any problems in the future I think! I think it's ridiculous that they class a factory fitted option as a modification!

In all fairness, quite a few insurers state "Any Modifications or Optional Extras" so I'm guessing that's where £1200 option wheels, steal me headunit and cup packs might come in..

You know what Rich, im that honest with my insurance that even told them I have silvervisions :p so I would be pretty fucked off if they said my insurance waid void for cup packs.

What about old people, with old crocks for a car. For example old man with a meastro. They arent gonna have a standard rover exhaust on anymore, so does that count as an aftermarket one? A mod? I'm sure most cars on the road on non standard really!
