Cup racer 0-100 in 10.5

  FN2 Type R +MK6 Golf
  C63 AMG, F430 & 172

lots of money lol, na i mean how do you becme a driver for a team, anyone on here do it

  Renault Laguna Coupe

you just need lots of money and then you can join a team - simple. About £120,000 for a season would do it.

  Lionel Richie

its down to the £7K sequential gearbox the cup racers use

built by sadev, and needs to serviced every 500miles IIRC

£120k?! Im sure I read in this months Evo that you can buy a Megane Trophy Racer for 99,00 euros and run it for a season on about the same amount again, which is about £135,000 overall. Surely the Clio season cant be that expensive, cant imagine the grids would be nearly as packed otherwise..?

Mechanic, engineer, travelling expenses, car, consumables, all adds up.

is that an air intake i see on the lower front grille ?
looks like a tow hook
Youre right the air intake is on the left hand side headlight.

My mate used to race formular renault. Looks like a fourmula 1 car with a 200bhp 2ltr engine. 0-100 in under 5secs and good for about 175mph! It cost his parents 150grand per season then the sponsors paid the rest, but his parents sold their business so he had to quite. Bad luck!

Dont know much about the Cup racers but if 190 bhp and 900kg is right (211 bhp/tonne) then its not that outrageous that it can run 0-100 in 10.5. After all, I would imagine they are built with short ratios and final drive so they are biased towards acceleration rather than top speed. Unlike a road car, it doesnt matter if youre doing 5000 revs at 70mph. Sequential box also will shave whole seconds off 0-100 assuming say 3 gearchanges.

Bear in mind that mine, which is still geared as a road car, with a road car box and about 250bhp/tonne does 0-100 in 11-12 seconds, so 10.5 for a Cup car sounds about right.

I dont believe the power to weight ratio is enough.

I know people say the cars at Bedford are detuned but even with the sequential box their Cup racers were no quicker than my 182 as far as I could tell.

The Cup racers are quoted with load of 0-60, 0-100 and top speed figures however they dont mention that to get all three you have to swop the gearboxes. The 0-100 time of 10.5 is possible but thats with a 6 speed that means the engines at its limiter at 110 or so. Its easilty possible if you think Nicks car does 107 in 13.36, so say hits 100 in 12 seconds. He will have to change gear three time at say .4 second eaach change plus he doesnt (as far as I know) have a LSD which slows him, he also runs normal tyres the Cups run slick which give more grip. The compination of these even though it has only 80% of power to weight combined with better suited gearing mean they can accelerate like that.

As for the Cup racers they costs £25k for a season. One of the racing teams was offering them for rent, all the owner had to do was to turn up to the races and arrange for the sticker ie sponersership for the car and not crash it, although a new car is only £11k or so anyway.

I am not buying either of those times, for the Clio or the Megane.

There is no way the Clio was a 10 seconder, gear ratios or no gear ratios. I could tell by that peak acceleration in any gear that it just was no where near that quick.

yes the 0-100 time is correct as they achieve that time with the ratios set to max out at about 105 and vice cersa when they go for the top speed, they swap the gears around again, so it will have slower acceleration but high top speed...bit crafty but thats what they do

a few of my mates have raced/are racing in it, id love to do it but just cannot get the budget together:cry:

You think 10.5 to 100 is fast? The new Megane V6 Trophy racers manage it in 6.3
i cant imagine for one second that the V6 megane does 0-100 in 6.3

Nah he means the Megane Trophy race cars

yeah, i know, the mental looking yellow thing...

still cant imagine that reaching a ton in 6.3, thats silly speeds, sh*t like tvrs dont even do that do they?

not too sure about the specs on them but if IIRC they are circa 350bhp? with very light weight, and again if they fiddled with the gearing they could probably do it yeh

they are supposed to be racing this weekend i think but because Renault have struggled to build enough, i think they are cancelling the first race or turning it into a demonstration or something

look great to drive though

LOL

Clear Up time.

Those boxes take three ratios sets the shortest ratio is the one quoted.

They dont need servicing every 500 miles. more like every season they need a re-build. If you are running it on the road - you can do normal clutched changes rather than clutchless. this will lengthen the life of the box. Fred might be right in that they need oil changes thinking about it.

Service is £800 on the box alone, not including fitting.

The Cup racers have a standard engine, MK1 induction and Orbisound Catd exhausts. Britcar cup racers can be modified...

The UK ones are still based around the year 2000 cars, just with updated bodywork and stuff. They are not 190+ BHP, that is marketing spiel IMO. they are the same 172 cars from 2000

European ones are 2001/2002 cars and cost about £20,000 they have the sadev vs 2 gearbox, which is a lot more reliable (these are what you see at palmers - but theirs run on LPG)

Any other questions?

Long and short of it is as follows:

the 50 numbered Clio Cup race cars that we have in the UK are the only cars permitted to run in the UK Clio Cup Championship.
