Custom throttle bodies

Im thinking of designing and making my own throttle bodies. anyone ever attempted this before?

as long as you know what your doing you stand a chance. Careful not to copy someone else's design though, someone on here did that and could/should have got in a lot of trouble had the company been aggressive. Think the main problem you'll have is making the linkage for the throttle opening and getting the butterfly's so that on 0% throttle they are fully closed. Good luck though, nice to see something a little different.

if they were fully closed at 0% throttle the engine wouldn't run ;)

you know what I mean, when you let off they dont always return to their previous closed position and stick open slightly.

Just use bike ITB's and get Bogg bro's to make you a manifold. Aftermarket ECU, then take it to be mapped, fit everything yourself and it'll come in at around £1500. IMO, I'd never use a "tuner" ever again.

Just gotta choose the right tuner dude!!!

AS for the throttle body idea.... seems pretty pointless unless you can make them super cheap, as i doubt u will stumble upon a design that is superior to whats already out there.

You're not wrong. I'd rather do everything myself now, as I know I could of had my car running within a week, even if I hadnt used a custom plenum, I could have just bolted ITB's on in about an hour and had some brackets made for the AC.

im thinking about doint it for a project i have to do for uni. I cant think of anything else that would be good to do but it may be difficult to make the design difficult to all the others.

Seriously, use bike ITB's. Then make the manifold and linkages yourself?

The engine wont run on standard management though so the project may be useless....

Dave, not rubbing it in, far from it as I know how f**king annoying and heart breaking it is, (then my bottom end went) but I did warn you at the time about that pal. People seem to think it's because I'm in "another camp" as they say, but as I said to you at the time I've been there and done that, so was talking from experience.

If you can you get all your money back, you should do something like you suggested above instead. Tried and tested and quick and easy to do.

I know exactly where you're comong from mate! Maybe it'll be worth it? I dunno, I just want it back now. Guess I'll just have to wait!

Get your money back, (you're WELL within your legal rights to do so) get the car picked up and just wack some Jenveys or similar on. Quick, easy, you already have a VEMS so it would just want mapping. You'll find that any love lost over time will come back even moreso when you get her back fella and you wont fail to be impressed by bodies. If I'm at FCS I'll let you have a go, as just driving a bodied car will make you want them for the noise alone, plus it changes the engines characteristics that much it's like driving a different car.

LOL was it just me that cant make sense of that, It actually made me laugh

probably ;)

absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. meaning its been away a while so he probably hates it right now, but that will all change.

I know what you meant mate, drove Bloors the other day, even as a 1.4 it just felt nice. f**king sick of waiting and driving other cars Ive had to buy! A blast in yours would be brilliant, you using the AT's? I'm trying to resist the urge to put the weber DCOE's on that are in my loft, loved my Nova with those on.....

Im always one step ahead Turner.....

(What did I beat you to?)

Yeah it's s**t mate, but tbf the VTS is a fun car if the 106 GTI and Rallye are anything to go by (although the pedals were tricky lol).
You're welcome to a go in mine, let loads of people drive it, swapped it with a mates R27 for the day to let each other have a test drive lol

I'm not using AT's on mine now, the work I'll be having will need Jenveys, you'll see why when it's done though as I'm keeping things a surprise for now ;)

DCOE's would be tempting, I had individual carbs on my XR2 lol.

Lol, yeah it's a fun car definately, just always feels like its gonna break!
Gutted, sold yours now you're buying more! Will have to have a chat at FCS...

Aye, 1.3 SR bottom end, 1400 big valve head, kent ast2, DCOE's, ashley manifold and system. 108bhp, oh yeah! Sounded amazing at 9k, lol.

I'd keep the VTS as well if it's cheap enough to run, it's basically a 106GTI which is a quality car.

Yeah in hind sight I should have kept the bodies on, but the replacements are slightly different spec. Sold my cams too, but I'm having it standard on ITB's for the moment, while I save up for my pistons and rods. Will be able to run some lairy cams then and some serious revs... do I go solid lifters though... lol

You're welcome to a go in mine, let loads of people drive it,

It's true you know, he instructed me to thrash it.....so I kicked the living s**t out of it lol

but of course! How else do you suggest driving an RS? lol

I decided against solid lifters because they are noisy as feck and need re-adjusting every so often. I'd see if you can get some custom grinds for the standard lifters and get the compression up, meaty headwork and a proper diff ;)

Diff would be interesting, it gets the power down surprisingly well though, think the tall gearing helps.

IMO forget the carbs. Not great for the cold morning starts and you will use all the fuel in the world and it'll still be difficult to get right.

DEFO agree with mini valver, bike carbs are for the farking win. and whats more is the above manifold is the absolute sale of the century

I'd like to see two similar spec'd cars, one jenveys or whatever, vs R1 or similar carbs. I dont think bike carbs will make as much power personally.
